About KeyWee

I love this site!  Since finding it awhile back, I have checked in here every day.  Peeve ~ if you ask a question in the forums, come back and check for answers and then please respond.  We want to know if we helped!!

If you are reading this, you will find I am quite boring (NOT bored ~ I have too much to do!) and people that don't like to cook, garden and read will certainly want to tune me out before too long.  But I love my dull life and don't wish for excitement and big-city-lights.  My husband and I live in rural West Kentucky with our two dogs (KeyWee and Sindee, 15yo and 14yo Yorkie-poos) on 12 acres that is more than three-quarter woods.  In 2005, we relocated here from SE Wisconsin so a bit of a culture shock took place, but now we are settled and enjoying the laid back mindset AND the longer gardening season (zone 5a to zone 6b may not seem like a leap, but it IS!).

My gardening style is wild ~ I don't care for formal or controlled.  I don't garden "out of my zone" as in tropicals or succulents, but I am definitely a perennial-aholic and love the excitement in spring when everyone "wakes-up" again (TOLD you I was dull!).  There are always several plants on my gotta-have list, and right now I am on a MISSION for Maryland (wild) senna and an orange butterfly bush ~ help!

Cooking and eating are favorite hobbies of mine.  Since I try to stay healthy and active (I will be 53 this year) I counteract the eating with a three mile walk each day ~ I hate dieting!  I'm always up for new recipes and especially enjoy eating straight from my own garden ~ can't beat the satisfaction!  My husband is a conservative eater, so I am limited in experimenting, but I will eat anything ~ try me!

Well who woulda thunk it??!  The illustrious State of Kentucky does a pretty durn good job of attempting to keep everyone informed, IF you know where to look.  This state's college of agriculture website is an endless wealth of information, not only ...

MG Class #11 ~ Soils
And soil chemistry ~ probably one of the most important classes of all in the series.  If you know your soil composition and what is has and what it lacks, you are definitely in business.  Plants need nutrients to grow, thrive and repel pests and dis...

MG Class #10 ~ Pesticides
And IPM (Integrated Pest Management).  That means that some genius will introduce eighty billion Asian beetles into your area to eat aphids ~ which works fine.  Just one teensy-weensy little problem.  The Asian beetles have NO natural enemy.  Well gu...
