About zone10guy

September 8, 2008  was my first anniversary at Long Beach Community Gardens.  The 20"x30" Zone 10 plot has been extremely rewarding.  This is my first vegetable garden in over 11 years - previous to this I lived in Pennsylvania. If I were to name my garden Elmhurst would be it.  Elmhurst is the name of my grandfather's dairy farm back in Connecticut.

Organic vegetable gardening is my thing. Hand turning the soil with an old yard-sale spade provides a connection to the earth and is therapeutic beyond words.  Before planting starters or seed I get on my knees and hand-break clumps of dirt, remove rocks, and, kill larvae.

Looking to share ideas, learn all I can, and be a good gardening neighbor.  My challenge is to have a plan two plantings ahead.  Can't really call it 'seasons' like back East as Zone 10 is blessed with year round gardening.

Don't be shy!
