I took a walk around the yard a bit ago and things are coming up and a few plants that were new last year look great. Some daffodils are blooming here and there and other bulbs have nice green on them. YEA I do believe I will make it after all.
I just saw a hilarious video and have to share it with you. It is a woman who had gone back to work after 30 years. Doesn't last long and some of you may not get it, but a lot of you will wet your panties laughing.
new ballgame in the weather category. Snowed so pretty, we got at least 3 inches but it is in the process of melting now. Forecast at a40 degrees today and 47 for tomorrow. Wonder if this is the last of it?
There are more photos in my album Snow 2010
Was nice to see the snow. When I was outside last evening taking pictures I was remembering wonderful walks in snow just like this one. It was coming down so softy and just enough to cover you slowly. The night sky was so lit up, I had forgotten that aspect of a snow front. This one was state wide and I think that is the reason. When it is just in some places you don't get that beautiful lit up night sky. Hope all of you enjoyed your bit of true winter and I am praying this will do it for the year. After all the first day of spring is on March 20th this year in only 5 weeks. :-D
to start the morning. There was a fire three doors up from me. 3 big fire trucks, 2 small fire vehicles, at least 4 police cars to block both ends of the street. I think that is a rental house and a large family lived there, did not know them however.
At first I thought it was a fire drill for the school just across the street but when no kids came out I went to the porch to get a better view. Could smell the smoke but there was not a huge amount of activity so I felt sure the whole house was not burning. My next door neighbor said the fire was in the back of the house.
Here is something beautiful to look at: a rose from the yellow knock out rose. This plant is up against the house and really looks good, I am eager to see it begin to bloom this year. Enjoy
The Greater Backyard Bird Count starts on Friday (the 12th) and I wish it started to day. The Robins and some others are all over the front yard. My hubby can see them from his window and has enjoyed this morning. The weather is a bit cold at a humid 44 degrees and there are intermittent showers. In fact I saw a lady get into her car across the street and she no sooner got in and started up the street when there was a five minute down pour. She would have been soaked had that one caught her.
HOORAY I got the taxes done this morning and Uncle Sam will be contributing to my meager income. It can't come at a better time. We may actually NOT go into a hole paying for our medicines for the next few months anyway.
I found a few crocus blooming last week. Must plant more of them. It would be great to see them coming up in the lawn areas much like the Ipheion (though they can take over) Well that might not be so bad you wouldn't ever have to mow. Of course with both these plants they die back after they bloom. So not so good an idea.
After a visit to my favorite garden shop I have decided Pansies need to grow and bloom all year around. My lawn would be full and beautiful. When you look over the many tables of Pansies it just brings joy to your heart. No didn't go to buy just to look around to see what was green all year, what bloomed this time of year and to smell the Pansies. The Camellias Japonica and Sasanqua were blooming in pots most about three feet tall.
My hubby was proud of his shave and haircut and asked me to take his picture. He is not bound to the bed but prefers the bed over his lift recliner. He has mobility problems and dementia. I treasure every bit of joy we can share.
This is a photo of him at his old school Reunion. Lodge is really in the country and the school held all grades. He enjoyed standing up there telling a few stories of his frends and the school. This was October of 2008.
This is a picture from our trip to Lake City in April 2009.
brings out the yarn in my house. I completed this little girls poncho yesterday. I had started some mittens but that pattern needed more concentration than I could give it right now. The lily yarn free pattern had them in bright colors, but this was all the cotton yarn I had. Bet it would look good in some of those fancy yarns. Enjoy.
Seems I have an extra quick moment to blog. My garden beds are a mess because they did not get cleaned up. Hoping to have some help in the next few weeks so they won't be such a mess come spring.
In my area it is only 8 weeks until spring officially raises her beautiful tresses. I can see and smell it now. We have had some really cold weather, some rain and sun so the strong plants should be ready to spring into action.
Most curious about the angel trumpets as it may be not all of them will make it after all the freezing temps we had in December. Really looking forward to being able to get back into the gardens again. And hoping my DH will be able to get outside with me.
The catalogs host so many wonderful plants including some new varieties of plants I really like. The Cuphea (or batface/cigar) many new Galliardia's and Rudbeckia's plus so many others. Hopefully I will be able to purchase one or two new plants for the summer.
Keep looking out the windows for signs of spring and take good care of those seeds and the seedlings that emerge while sitting on the window sill.
I was looking under the tab 'Garden Design' and then on Cottage Gardens. The photo there is what I would love to have. Won't happen but it is a look I love. Can't you just see yourself walking through the paths?
had a great Christmas. Here are photos of my knock out rose bouquet and the framed counted cross stitch piece hanging in the foyer. It was a good day for both of us.
of my Garden Guides friends. Don't have much time to sit and post but I do try to look in each day.
My hubby is much stronger physically and mentally he does OK. Some days better than others. I am plugging along with mostly good days. Having a loving church family and many friends and my sons to help out we have nothing to complain about. Then there is this web site that keeps my spirits up and gives me lots of smiles and chuckles too.
Wishing for all of you and your loved ones an absolutely fabulous Christmas season. For all of you that celebrate this time of year in other ways than with the traditional protestant doings, may your season of joy be great.
I do believe I will be able to have roses on the Christmas dinner table. Will take a photo for proof. This has been a wild year for weather. That is what makes gardening or appreciating the seasons more fun. We never know what will come next.
My son and his wife came and brought a delicious turkey breast, dressing, gravy, cranberry salad, fresh green beans the works. Best turkey I have ever had, so moist. They stuffed the breast with celery, apples, onion and fresh rosemary and baked it with the breast side down. All the moisture from the brid soaked right in and did we enjoy it.
Then my DIL took me to the movies to see "Old Dogs" with Robin Williams and John Travolta. It was hilarious and a wonderful family movie.
The day was gorgeous after the heavy fog lifted and it finally got down into the 30's early this morning. Only 45 now at almost 10am. Winter must be on the way.
Happy Holidays everyone and you ladies that shop? Hope you found everything you wanted on this Black Friday.
Due to the long season of fall with no frost or freeze there are many plants blooming in the garden. This year I must have brought my Thanksgiving Cactus inside just in time. They are blooming so well. Here are a few pictures. This is the first year the creamy plant has produced so many blossoms.
I love the pink in this one
Have you ever had this plant to produce more than one bloom on a plant section? There are several of these and one is trying to put out a third bloom.
This pot has all three colors in it.
Took this pic without the flash. That creamy color is hard to capture.
This is not a very good photo but it gives you an idea of what the AG's are doing right here at the holidays.
Now some Thanksgiving Haiku just for 'U'
Turkey day is here. Dad carves precisely with care. White meat and dark too
Holidays are great Thanksgiving comes in the fall Christmas in winter
People gather close Thanksgiving is coming fast Next is Christmas Day
The turkey gobbles with his last big sigh in life We wait for dinner
Thanksgiving snow falls Noses and fingers are cold Skaters twirl and glide

state of mind. Our new normal is different but if it stays on a decent routine we will be fine. Don is doing real well but has a long way to go. He is so fearful of falling that he tenses up which is not good. Hoping PT at home will help with that. Two of our sons redid the ramp so that it is wheelchair accessible. Much easier to traverse.
The weather is so goofy these days. By now our gardens should be nothing more than mulch with some evergreen plants standing out. Instead it looks like September and all the late blooming varieties are going strong. The pineapple sage looks so pretty and the wild ageratum is full of blue flowers. The mums are very active and growing well though the drought did affect their blossoms. The pink annual vinca is still blooming also.
The angel trumpets decided to have a go at a bloom time as well. The white one is on its third showing and the yellows have just started in the last couple of weeks. It was nice to run home from the hospital and see them blooming.
The pansies and snapdragons did well and were such healthy plants. Sometimes you lose a few but this batch seems to be doing great. Tried to do a 'smiley face' with creamy yellows as the eyes nose and mouth. If it actually works out I will take a picture. Depends on when and how much they bloom.
The pink knockout rose has new blooms and one azalea has a big bright flower. The Iphion bulbs have put up green so I guess they think it is early spring. They the ones that smell like garlic and come up before anything else and have a pretty bluish flower. One of the Lantana on the driveway bank has begun to bloom again and another has lots of buds.
All in all I have enjoyed having color in the gardens this late in the year. Wonder what Thanksgiving will bring. We have had days of cold rain, a bit of snow and heat where you could have gone swimming. The month of November is always full of surprises.
Don is now in a rehab hospital. He is still a bit confused but is better than two days ago. He has occupational and physical threapy. He is walking well with a walker but is still weak. Still not eating enough though. I asked if he could get some Ensure. We wait and wait. He tries and tries. Thanks to all of you for your good words of encouragement.
My grandson that lives just up the street had his 12th birthday today. I noticed that he has a bit of dark fuzz on his upper lip. Makes me happy and sad all at the same time. Last friday was my anniversary. Hubby and I have been married 35 years now. This was the second marriage for both of us and it has worked out just fine.
Was at the farmers market this weekend to work at the Master Gardener booth and get my pansies and snapdragons. I will be out planting in the morning and I am ready. Did get the front yard mowed and got the annual fall dust in the face as the lawn is all but gone out there. Cleaned a little here and there and called it quits for the day.
The colors of pansies I choose this year were one flat of a light creamy color and two flats of a pretty blue, creamy yellow and white. Plan to put the creamy ones in the center and surround them with the others. The snaps will be planted behind these plants. The snap dragons come back pretty good here and seem to come back even heartier than when newly planted. I love the cheery faces of both these annuals.
