May 26 Memorial Day

Someone wished me a happy holiday. I told them that every day is a holiday when you're retired! Yesterday did turn out to be a day of rest and games. I just piddled around a bit doing as little as possible. I did get a few of the petunias out of the natural bed and potted, but there are a lot! I hate to just dig them up and throw them away. I toted a lot of water, too. I used two watering cans this time. Too much walking involved when I use just one. We played a lot of dominoes just for fun, and our young neighbors brought over some BBQed ribs to share with us as well as watermelon. Porch-sitting was so pleasant. The birds were active. We thought we had a bunny in the garden, but it turned out to be two doves pushing each other around! Now if we just had some rain...

That sounds like a perfect day. We are staying outside as much as possible too. |

My wife and I, both retired, comment to each other all the time about being so lucky to be on vacation everyday down here on Lake Cumberland. So many people spend so much money to visit the lake for a week or weekend. We just sit back and smile like the cat that swallowed the canary. You all have a great Memorial Day. When is it time to quit work? With improved medical care and healthier lifestyles extending our life spans, many well past their 70s choose to head to work everyday. Good for them. But for those who can and do choose retirement, good for them too. Either way our years are numbered. What really seems to matter is how we make time for life's simple pleasures, such as, a walk through the garden. |

Amen! Doug, I am thankful everyday that my DH and I can be among the 'retired' people. We could be considered 'young' to be retired in our 60's but we love it. LB |
