The Seedlings are Growing
Acer palmatum
One can grow bonsai from seeds a process known as 'misho'
Seedlings can be potted together to form a "forest" or "Clump"
Japanese Maples are spectacular in the fall
Grow in Moist, well-drained soil and give Part Shade
If there are Japanese Maple trees growing near you, the seed are ripening; now is the time to gather the seeds yourself

Ah, misho. I have a dwarf, red Japanese maple, but I don't think that I've ever seen seeds from it. I do have those "helicopter" seeds in the spring floating around from somewhere, though. I'll have to keep a better eye on my JM, and see if it makes seeds. |

I have some that produce seed and some that do not. The genetics of it all! |

Your plan to take your bonsai to your classroom sounds like a great idea. We all know how many years true bonsai can take to reach its fullest potential so it is good to get started young. I am a fairly new enthusiast and think that my plants will be for my grand children. I only joined this site a few days ago and this is my first post. I wish you every success with your project. I need some assistance. I will be visiting Miami over the weekend and ned some supplies especially wire and some bonsai pots. I will be staying in the LeJeune area, near the airport.
