Well I've just planted the last of my veggie garden, which I started on Monday. The hubby tilled the area Sunday. We went, that evening, to Lowes and picked up a bunch of seeds to try. I put them in Monday morning. I hope I did it right. I've never planted seeds before, so we'll see what happens. Then, yesterday, I bought a bunch of already-started tomato plants and put them in this morning. I'm not sure how well they're gonna do. The first several I put in went in pretty well. But the last row, I felt like I was hitting an awful lot of rocks and stones. I still planted them, so we'll see how they do too. I'm think, next year, I'll either make it a raised garden, or move the boundaries up a bit, away from the stone.

I'm anxious to see how they do, but I'm not quite as enthusiastic as I was yesterday.

After planting the tomatoes, I started to work on my pots out back. I planted red geraniums in two big pots on Monday. Then I put red petunias in the window boxes on our shed and in my pot genie next to the shed. I plan to put some red petunias in the chair pot on the other side of the shed. I have several other types of red flowers, but decided to put only petunias out back, around the shed. I think it'll look a bit more cottage-y. But I'm putting the other red flowers, and what's left of the petunias, out in the front flowerbed. This afternoon, I'm hoping to finish around the shed, then weed the back flowerbed. I'm still looking for a teeny azalea bush for out there. That's where I'm putting my fairy garden. I plan to take some pics, once the flowers are well-established, and then I'll post them.

divaqs	May 23, 2007 \| 10:38 AM PST Good Luck!!! I am curious how many tomatoes you planted. From your blog entry it sounded like you had multiple rows of them. Did you plant different varieties? What is a fairy garden?
teddebayer	May 23, 2007 \| 12:54 PM PST divaqs, I planted 18 already-started tomato plants and 1 row of seeds from a packet. There are 4 different varieties for the already-started...big beef, Carolina gold, yellow and sunsugar. The big beef and Carolina gold I got from a local roadside stand and he only had 4 big beef left, so I got 8 Carolina gold. Then I went to a local farmer's market and got the 3 yellow and 3 sunsugar. I wanted the yellow cherries from that place, but wasn't sure which was which till this morning, when I looked more at the tags and figured it out (I'm blond...tee hee). As for a fairy garden, I read an article in BH&G 5-6 years ago about a place that did fairy gardens with kids. They suggested you find some sort of container for the garden, even using an old dresser drawer, pot or hollowed-out tree stump. They gave a good list of miniature looking plants to use. You place them in such ways to look like shrubs and such. I've purchased several small fairy statues to place throughout my fairy garden and even a mushroom house last year. I also have a miniature terra cotta pot, from a craft store, that I put on its side in the dirt, to mimic the larger ones I have for decoration in my front flowerbed. And I want to get a round, unfinished birdhouse to make into a potting shed. I plan to make my fairy garden permanent by using a miniature rose bush, small azalea and a few perrenials, like a miniature carnation and a corresponding dianthus. The annuals I'll use are sweet alyssum, viburnum (I think that's what it is) and other small flowering plants I can find. When its done, I'll post a Last edited by teddebayer on May 23rd at 12:55 PM.
divaqs	May 23, 2007 \| 12:59 PM PST Wow, that is a lot of tomato plants. Are you planning on canning sauce or salsa this year? I did that a few years back. It was fun, but messy. The fairy garden sounds really cute. I would love to see pictures when you are done.
