It's the beginning of cooler weather. Where I live, the cool weather begins even when it's officially summer.. Anyway it's time to live vicariously through everyone's spring and summer blogs! :) Here are my shallots.
So I've been tearing out the summer vegetables and preparing for winter/autumn. The tomatoes, eggplants and zucchinis have come out. I found a pumpkin and watermelon plant that didn't fruit. Perhaps it wasn't warm enough. The empty beds have been mixed up with compost, blood and bone, manures, wetting granules, seaweed pellets and organic fertilizer. I planted some shallots and bok choy from the nursery and I have planted seeds of baby spinach, mizuna, mesclun, bok choy, kailaan, mignonette and komatsuna.
My Tahitian limes are ready to go into cocktails! And the lone pomegranate is almost ready. There are some leaves turning these days and my chickens are getting their winter feathers ready. And that's about it from me!

great do read a blog from you :) Sounds like things are moving right along in your garden! Hope you have much success with your fall garden. We all lived vicariously through you during our winter....now we can return the favor for you :) |

Hi, Shiuko, you have an interesting combination of plants and veggies. I noticed in your earlier blogs that you grow lemon grass too. I got hooked on lemon grass after receiving some leaf stalks and some with roots from a friend. The leaves make good tea and helped my insomia. How do you propagate lemon grass? Any suggestions? I planted those with roots but they don't seem to be growing at all. |

Hi Shiuko :) What yummy shallots! - I can't get enough of them at the moment. I have leeks but they are taking sooo long to grow that they look like shallots at the moment! And what a tasty array of winter veges - your garden is so lovely! I'm glad your limes are ready in time for Autumn cocktails, and I'm sure your pomegranate will be special when you eat it - savour it until next year's harvest! And give your fluffy chickens a pat for me :) |

My lemongrass also seemed not to grow until the hottest part of summer.. I have a book which says to avoid cool positioning or frost; keep in full sun with lots of water and says it grows well in a pot. It says to add manure in the spring. Hope that helps! :) |
