About quasar
I have been gardening most all my life, grew up on a dairy farm so I have been exposed to growing things from an early age.
My grandfather also had a truck farm so I learned early on how to plant, cultivate, weed and harvest. Some of my earliest memories are of picking strawberries on the farm.
Farming was hard work as a kid growing up but now I garden for relaxation.
I don't know which I enjoy more, working the garden or eating the results of my efforts.
After all these years I still get a thrill seeing little seedlings poking through the soil. The "miracle of birth", garden style.
Here in Northern West Virginia there are some challenges to gardening, one of those is dealing with the deer, as you can see by my pictures the garden is fenced. They eat everything, including my wife's flowers which aren't fenced.
This 2007 growing season has it's own hardship.....drought, I am having to water almost every day.
This year I am really concentrating on my Fall garden. I want to continue growing lettuce onions and greens right up to and beyond my first frost date of October 14th.
It takes a little more work to get things to germinate and flourish during the hot days of August and September but I am hoping to push the limit and get every day possible out of this growing season.
I love gardening....it is one of God's greatest gifts.

Fall Garden Chapter 2
This entry actually covers Sunday's activities, too busy to post it yesterday. Sunday was a near perfect mid-summer day, at least as far as the garden is concerned. The temperature was in the mid-80's and humidity was up there. Did more work o...
Fall Garden
What a pleasant evening to work in the garden. The temperature was in the low 70s, we got a little rain, not enough to soak the ground but it did cool things off nicely. I made further progress with the fall garden, planted three 5 foot row...
July's Harsh Reality
It has been one of those near perfect summer days here in Northern West Virginia. Lots of sunshine and the high temperature was only 75 with very low humidity....very untypical for the upper Ohio valley. Now for the bad news, squash...
