Got most of my flower beds ready to be planted and it has been so cold here that I am afraid to plant anything. It has frosted there the last couple of night and they are calling for frost again tonight. The weather man told us to wait until Mother's Day this year. I am about to tear my hair out. Have even been putting off cleaning out the pond because it usually takes about 2 to 3 days and I don't want to leave the lily's out of the water that long. Might have to set up the kiddie pool and just hope for the best though.
Haven't found a mushroom yet, to cold for even that. Have heard though that people are finding a few. The redbud trees are in full bloom. Also the minature fruit trees are in bloom, will probably freeze again this year.
Had to move the bird feeders the other day. The darn squirrels were cleaning out the seeds. Have had a visit from my goosebecks and today I thought I seen a baltimore oriole will have to get the orarge feeder out if that is the case. We had quite a group of them last year. Enough for now. Please tell me more about the "orange feeder". I am just now learning about different birds and their likes and dislikes. I live in the middle of the woods on the side of a mountain so I can hear them all around me but I'm interested in bringing them closer. Just made some suet for the first time the other day and me and my little girl smeared it all over the trees in the front yard. I wonder what kind, if any, oriole we have in these parts? |

I will try and describe the orange feeder for you. It looks like the end of a small bird house but it is only about half an inch thick. The hole is about or alittle bigger than an orange. There is a nail that goes through the house and stick into the orange and back through the house. It is really handy. The birds just flock (hey I made a funny) to it. It's been cold here too, I'm afraid to put anything in the ground, I feel for ya! Warmer weather HAS to be just around the corner! |
