I had a very productive day today! i didn't get EVERYTHING i wanted to do done, but then the chore was a bit bigger than i origionally thought. I put up a couple more pics, but i'm gonna list them here too. i got about 1/2 the yard raked. i never realized how big my yard actually was until i was raking it. OOOh and i managed to clear out my shady spot!! that was my big thing, it was pretty burried in leaves and other stuff. i still don't know what to do with all the leaves. there's TONS! at the moment they're residing in the leftover pumpkin bags i had and a huge pile in the middle of my yard. i also have a big stick collection starting. i made Lizzy a little bed of her own. we planted gladiolas, they said plant end of march, i figured now was good. i dont know that they'll take, but i don't think she'll care. we're gonna look for something else too to put there. she just liked digging in the dirt! lol. it was ironic because at first i couldn't get her to want to even stay outside w/me, but after i introduced the shovel and gave her an area to dig in, she didn't want to go inside! it's finally spring, it was so nice out i went w/o a coat. OOOOh!! and i found some plants growing! i planted them last year but forgot about them because they died almost as soon as i planted them =( i think they're called Hyacinth, ok dbl checked, yup thats what they are. yea. so i offically have something in my garden! hee hee.
this is my sunny spot.... needs some more tlc i know. you can only do so much in a day though. gimmie 7 see what i accomplish then...
these are the hyacinth, there are 3 total. i think these two will be purple, i'm trying to remember, i bought them a year ago...
this is my shade garden. still under construction. like my pumpkins in april? lol. they were leftovers from last fall. not sure what you do with leaves? o and the tarp... i just discovered that today... under my porch. ugg. on a plus side though my MIL is offering me free shade plants!! yea! she said she has at least 10 different types of hostas and she's also offering up some of her plats for me to take to a perennial exchange! ... i'm not sure what that is, but i think it's just what it sounds like, you exchange perennials right? i bring some and offer them up and trade them for something else someone else has..... she said her best plants have some from there. sweet! =)
Lizzy's Plot. believe it or not those bricks were just laid in my yard..... i have a ton of them i'm not sure why. they make a square so maybe something used to lay on top of it... IDK. but under it is sand so i'd say it was intentional. we planted gladiolas here along the back. i'm looking for something else to put here too. idk.
it's a girl.... lol. this one is pink.

It's a really good idea taking before and after pictures, just don't forget to show us the after. You worked very hard today, all that prep work gets hidden in the new growth of spring. It's worth it. You have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell |

You did have a productive day-looks great. Lizzy's garden space is adorable...brings back memories of when my girls were little. I've heard some little girls like to decorate their spaces with fairy figurines, shiny rocks or marbles, etc. Take care of yourself, it's amazing how many unused muscles we engage once gardening season hits and you are gardening for two!~Andrea |

Wonderful blog, thanks for sharing. Isn't it amazing that we almost have to show kids what to do outdoors? When my kids were little it was almost impossible to get them inside to eat. When I had my inhome daycare sometimes we would just plain lay a blanket down, take out the peanut butter and bread and do a picnic. This calmed them down from running and playing and got them all ready to clean up and take that nap that I needed more than they did. Most often I had 2 infants and 4 toddlers. Can't believe I even survived those years. They were fun though. Linda B |

You might consider a compost bin with all those leaves. I am trying my hand at it for the first time this year. After researching, you'll be amazed at everything you can recycle in your mulch pile...coffee filters and grounds, egg shells, vegetable and fruit leftovers, newspaper, dryer lint, grass clippings, and lots and lots of leaves :) Saves on the cost of fertilizer too! |

It was VERY worth it, and although at the end of the day i was EXHAUSTED, it was a good thing. and it motivated me to continue into the house lol. I was thinking of maybe doing a compost, i need to do more research though on how it all works. lol. WOW LINDA 2 INFANTS and 4 Toddlers! i don't know how you did it? kudos to you though. man. i think we're gonna get a sand box soon, the little plastic turtle kind, i'm looking around to see what people have for garage sales, not too many yet though. and once summer hits we'll pull out the kiddy pool and sprinkler--she's a WATER baby.. just like mommy. to hear it from her "i'm a mermaid" lol. def gonna shop around the dollar store and what not to find some "treasures " for her to put in her garden. they have a lot of cutesy little figurines that i think she'd LOVE for her garden. |
