I can't sleep and don't know why; I'm tired enough. Oh, well, rather than lie there, tossing and turning, I just got up and came in the computer room to play some solitaire. I've always loved solitaire, but, since playing it on the 'puter, I don't enjoy the real cards anymore -- too lazy to shuffle them, I guess ;-)
Orchard Hardware had a big sale on Memorial Day and I forgot it was going on, so I missed getting more things to plant.
The cuttings I took of oleander, boxwood and a few others are looking pretty good, now; funny, when I try to start them in the greenhouse, they are so slow to take, but natural sunlight really gets them going.
Well, rather than bore you to sleep, I'll go try to catch some Z's again.

I loaded up my van, as I was going to take my Mother's ashes home, to scatter them; her wish was to have her ashes scattered at a light house on the Long Beach Penninsula, in Washington.
Well, my trip started out very well, however, as soon as I drove through Sacramento, I was lost. I was on the wrong highway, so I turned around and figured I'd go home, instead. We have a GPS, but I failed to take that. Next time I start, I'll remember to take the GPS. I just don't like the voice on it; sounds bossy ;-)
Today, I checked the parsley I planted, a few weeks ago; it looked like only one of the seeds had come up, but, when I checked, it looks like a bird dropped a sunflower seed in the pot. At first, I thought it was an alpha-parsley, sort of like when dogs are alpha or beta, in the pecking order. I looked closer and saw many small parsley plants coming up. If you look closely, you can see the parsley shoots; that's the monster alpha-parsley in the front ;-)
If I don't get on here for awhile, I'll probably be trying to reach Washington again, via New York or some other out of the way place ;-)

Here's the description of one, as well as a picture. This pan originated in Germany and was called a Kartoffel puffer (spelling?), which is a potato puff.

Make the perfect Pancake Puff with the new cast iron pan! Now you can make Pancake Puffs from home just like grandma used too.Simply mix your batter! She might have called them German Pancakes, Dutch Baby Pancake, Danish Aebelskiver / Ebelskiver or even Puff Pancakes. They can be filled with apples, meat, cheese, pudding and many other fillings.
The reason I was so anxious to buy the pan now was our son and his daughters were scheduled to go camping this weekend and I thought it would be a fun way to fix their breakfasts. Son has taught his daughters how to cook and they delight in fixing their own stuff. Well, the camping trip is off, so they will be going on Thanksgiving and I'm going to store the pan in the trailer, so it will be handy when they need it.
I bought some seeds at Wally-World, for curly parsley; these seeds are guaranteed to grow, but only one has come up; I'm going to write and ask them if their guarantee includes all the seeds, or just one ;-) We planted them in Miracle Grow and Mike fertilizes them about once a week, with Miracle Grow's fertilizer; everything else loves that treatment, but the parsley just ignores Mike's efforts.

Found the pancake puffer pan, yesterday, so bought two; one for son and one for daughter. No one seems excited about making puffs except me and the grandkids; I don't remember raising such old fuddy-duddies! Oh, well, the kids and I are still young and eager, so we'll make our own puffs and not share them, sort of like that chicken in the tale, where she couldn't get anyone to help her make the bread...

Yesterday, I watered early and then came in, to hide from the heat. I was bored with nothing to do, so I decided to work on my Mike's computer; it's slower than molasses. I proceeded to delete a lot of stuff and it kept getting faster and faster, then I rebooted it and something shouldn't have been deleted, so I put everything back on. He's getting a new one, so I'm going to take his old one to the sewing house and connect my digitizing programs and card reader/writers.
I am joining a quilt guild and one of their members makes quilts for kids, so I'm going to digitize a bunch of redwork designs and show her how to save money and make really neat quilts for kids out of muslin with Sunbonnet Sue or the little boy with bib overalls, or dinosaurs or cars or -- the list goes on. If you want to see some of my past designs, here's my url:

I haven't been here for quite awhile, because I started letting my son sell the designs to raise money for ARPkD. I was happy, when I was giving them away, but once it entailed filthy lucre, I quickly lost interest. Now I feel like starting again.
Hmmm, let's see, what can I do to get into mischief, today? ;-)

I finally had to go research the volunteer "corn" that was growing and found out that it's sorghum. Here's a picture from wickipedia and the 2nd one is my sorghum. This volunteer came from the black oil seed (sunflower seeds) that I put in a feeder near this garden; I wash it off the walk, daily, and mostly I've gotten sunflowers, but this one sorghum grew... think I'll have to learn how to make ethanol ;-)

My sorghum
My grandmother raised sorghum, among many other things, and used it for cattle feed and syrup. In the mornings, she would make a black Norwegian bread, slather homemade butter on it, then sorghum syrup, then put heavy cream over that and then a very strong coffee, and give it to me for breakfast. I loved it. Grandma called it coffee bread; I thought I was all grown up, eating coffee bread ;-)

I've had several questions regarding what the spirea will look like, once he's in the ground; funny, but that didn't occur to me, since I saw a poor, neglected, thirsty plant, the day I bought him for ten cents. I went looking and, whoop-de-doo, it's really pretty; here's a picture of one in bloom:

Today, I'm going hunting for more new stuff to plant; sales should be on and you can never have enough plants. I'm also going to try to find one of those pancake puffer pans to put in our trailer; our son is taking the girls camping on Memorial Day and they've been bugging me for one of these. I went looking, the other day, but it seems they are only available from the TV infomercial and, if that's the case, I'll just buy one at a kitchen supply place, 'cause, in the old days, they were called Kartoffel Puffer (potato puff).
Well, here I go, pennies in hand; wish me luck, please?

This is the Gold Flame Spirea on the day he came to live here around 27 July:

Here's the picture of him today, Aug 23, 08; he looks much better now, wouldn't you say?

As usual, I managed to take a picture of one of my fingers; never fails ;-)
