About motherbored

When we moved here in 1988, there was nothing but weeds and hard ground; since then, each year we buy a live Christmas tree and plant it; all the trees are gigantic, now.  We live on 5+ acres; I do all the mowing, and, when I can, coerce my hubby to dig me another hole, so I can plant something else.

Mike (hubby) was in the Navy, so, each time we moved, I would start another garden and have to leave it, within 2 years or so; thus, I developed a hunger for planting.

Our place is home to many species of birds: bluebirds, nuthatches, orioles, red-tailed hawk, kestral falcon, wild turkey (her name is Miriam), 3 cats and 3 dogs.  The cats only get to go out at night, for the safety of the bird population, in the spring and summer.

I build birdhouses and situate them for the various birds; we go through 100# of black oil seed (sunflower seed) per week, in the summer.

We had a pond put in and it's an oasis for all wildlife.  We don't use pesticides.  We have mosquito fish in the pond, as well as water iris, weeping willows, cork-screw willows, etc.  I start most of our plants and trees from cuttings that I start in my greenhouse.
