We have Blooms!

Today I have a full flush of blooms on my miniature iris patch. Here is a quick photo of the first couple. I had to go home on my lunch hour to catch them. It always seems that the blooms fade so fast. I'm sure I just get busy and don't notice the time passing.

After taking pictures of my new blooms I also noticed more blooms that I am not excited about at all... Dandelions. I proceeded to dig out as many as I could in my remaining time at home. I dug out a bunch in the backyard a few years ago and it seems to have reduced them quite a bit. I hope it works as well in the front yard.
Does anyone have a proven method of getting rid of these things for good?

Loved your irises and have you ever seen a field full of dandelions blooming in the spring, a breath taking sight. Let the dandelions bloom and then dig them before they produce the seed bloom. You gotta be fast and selective. You have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell |

I would rather see a field of poppies, Bill. But you are right they are a great color of yellow. Dig em up is the only good method. If you want to go through the trouble putting a bit of vinegar just down into the center of the dandelion should work, but then the plant is still there and will die and look bad. So keep digging and pulling. LB |

At least I don't feel like my digging has been all in vane. I will most likely dig some more tomorrow. |

Love the iris! I try to pop the dandelions' heads off before they seed, and then dig, dig, dig. |
