Hello,
4.3.2008
After few weeks of wondering, postponing for no reason and thinking "what if?", I have finaly started my gardening project.
I was living in a quiet village on a small hill since being 3 years old. Nature was all around me and in a way I took it for granted... Didn't like vegetables much and also helping my parents out-side in the garden was a dragg, so I grew up without feeling any need for growing something by myself. when my big brother moved to his own place the most important thing for him was that he could grow his breakfast- tomatos, cucumbers, basil and more... I watched him, without jealousy and thought "kind of fun".
Later on I became vegetarian and started to enjoy the nature more then ever, as the time passed on the recycling and pollution issues became top conversational material and the uproring prices of veg. and fruit around me pushed me to understand the importance of eating healthy and the endless posibilities connected to grrowing your own food.
Since my housing doesn't allow me even a small garden and the air in the balcony is simply bad(crowded city in Japan, next to a train station), I have decided to try on Hydroponics... After ordering a book on the web and reading it while taking the morning train I started planing my indoor garden- so many things to buy, so much to do, what, where, how? got some of the things but before buying I wanted to make a shopping list to see how big is the investment, so a list was made and plans were drawn but getting some of the equippment can be tricky for a Gaijin(foreigner) in Japan. anyway time passed by and yet to come- no lamp, no groqing media, many things are missing so I should wait a little bit longer...
The other day I recalled some seeds I bought in an organic festival in Tokyo (what was I thinking) just because the package was cool... after a short search(first my brain, then the house) I got them and decided "that's it, that does it, tomorrow or never..."
So yesterday I left work "early"(20:00O'clock), mixed some coco coir with nutrients and water, put in a plastic container, sprinkeled some Italian Basil seeds and some greens for salad, covered with cellophane wrap and put it on the hot carpet. It took my about an hour after mixing the wrong pH liquid and starting all over again(first time beginner) and I even had enough time to clean after before my wife comes back home...
It was fun...
Now I wait...
See u soon
