Of all the pests in a garden they are the worst. I wrote about my problem in the wldlife forums, haven't gotten a response yet, so I 'll try here. I swear those damn birds mate year around. I have pictures of frozen baby sparrow's hanging out of a bird house and it's snowing. They chase every bird out my yard. They dive bomb my squirrles. They attacked a big wood pecker that was drinking out of the pond this winter, For some reason he never went south. I have counted up to 50 or more at one time around the pond. I have taken all the houses down and I don't have feeders anymore. My sister Linda, "that has the most beautiful birds in her yard." said to only feed niger seed and black sun fowers, in this certain feeder. Well I did and they got on the feeder and swung it so the food fell out on to the dirt so they could get to it. I used to get 3 or more pairs of robins, I hardly see any now. I am up for any idea's you folks have. I 'm to the point it can be a little not so legal!!!

yardgranny6	Mar 13, 2008 \| 5:16 PM PST I would suggest you call someone in your town to see if they can be killed or trapped. I know that sounds awful. But they have kept the bluebirds out of my yard for years. They go in the BB house and pull the babies out and chip into the eggs too. Perhaps someone that deals with animal control? SpringChicken	Mar 14, 2008 \| 12:45 AM PST LOL! Sorry, I know your situation isn't really funny and your desperate but it did make me giggle! I can just picture you out there cursing those sparrows and flailing your hands at them while they nonchalantly hop along without a care in the world nor a care for your ranting and raving. My only suggestion would be to get some wild tom cats. That oughta take care of 'em. Of course, you won't get to enjoy any other beautiful birds either. So you will have to decide just how badly you want rid of those sparrows.
kerryh	Mar 14, 2008 \| 5:33 AM PST LOl my son said to put rice in a feeder, I said, "why rice,?" it does somthing to there digestion. I said ,"oh sure and when birds start falling out of the sky,everyone around here will know who did it.!!!"
bsmitch	Mar 14, 2008 \| 7:07 AM PST Send them my way, I've taught all my birds to get along. I feed in so many different environments and put up way to many bird houses that it seems to make all the varieties live together in harmony. You have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell
kerryh	Mar 14, 2008 \| 12:15 PM PST Believe me I would if I could, I was looking out the window this morning and their was the first robin of spring just setting in the baren apple tree. And then guess what! 3 of those damn sparrows chased him off.! I had 7 bird house' around the yard and there was sparrows in everyone when I took them down. I left this one house in the front yard that has a too small of hole. It's really funny to watch those birds try to get in there. Or hang on to the side and try to pick the hole bigger.
