Tag: Unwanted cats in garden

I have a graciously inviting courtyard. However, neighbors cats have turned it into a very intolerable smelly cat box. I have purchased products that work only a few days. The cats are not deterred from the products. The urine has killed 2 of my azaleas.

Has anyone been successful in keeping cats from their garden areas. I need some advice!!!

Dry out your used teabags in the sun and then sprinkle them with eucalyptas oil, then place them in the beds or areas you dont want the cats to go into, apparently they dont like the smell.It apparently works very well. Welcome to GG.
bsmitch	Feb 12, 2008 \| 9:07 AM PST Try scattering moth balls around or sprinkling cayenne pepper, this has worked for me for dogs,cats,rabbits and squirrels. You have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell
yardgranny6	Feb 12, 2008 \| 9:57 AM PST I have used moth balls or chrystals. They have worked for me but they do smell for a while right after you put them down. Have you spoken to your neighbors about their cats? and is there any animal control that has laws about cats roaming? What a shame not to be able to enjoy your patio. Sometimes spraying water on them encourages them to find another litter box. Wonder what it is about your courtyard that attracts them? Do you feed birds close by? Interesting problem. Good luck finding that one thing that tells the cats to go elsewhere. Linda B
thequiltedgardener	Feb 12, 2008 \| 5:12 PM PST I have used cayenne pepper, it was an expensive adventure but the cats stopped coming. you should know that the garden was small and each time it rained I had to re-sprinkle. Try any of the peppers if sprinkled heavy enough and consistantly the cats will be bothered enough they will find another place to......go.
kerryh	Mar 20, 2008 \| 6:49 AM PST I set the sprinklers in my beds, I had watched to see when they would come to my yard, so I would turn the water on while they were doing there mess. A couple of times is all it took. I have been known to turn the hose on full blast and part their hair also. I have animals but I don't let them run wild and I expect the same. You can also get cat traps, after few time of bailing their little darlings out of jail helps to. It not only the smell... I don't wear gloves, yuck. Happy Planting Kerrh
