As you can see I have a lovely little electric pump water fountain.

Can anyone tell me how to keep the mosquitos from laying their eggs, in my fountain?

I read that they won't lay in moving water, however, I really don't want to keep the pump plugged in all the time.

Does anybody know of a battery operated pump or something that I can keep in the fountain?

Aurora	Jun 30, 2008 \| 5:31 AM PST You have a couple of options: You can put a piece of a mosquito dunk into the fountain. It's a bacteria that kills the larvae and is safe for everything else. Or you can put a small amount of oil into the fountain- That will suffocate the larvae.
rlssc	Jun 30, 2008 \| 6:00 AM PST cooking oil is a good suggestion as is the the mosquito dunk. I sometimes add clorox, to clean out the algae, pump filter and take care of the larvae.

Pameliap	Jun 30, 2008 \| 4:37 PM PST If you have a Harbor Freight outlet nearby, they sell a solar fountain for not much money. You might be able to order from them online - I've never tried that as we have one in town.
bsmitch	Jun 30, 2008 \| 5:26 PM PST We have a flowing fountain and I go to Walmart and buy little gold fish @ $.28 each. They eat the mosquito larva. I have to put 6 or 7 a week because some die and the animals get the rest. I also add new water from the hose every day. You have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell
ilene	Jul 3, 2008 \| 1:49 AM PST Thank you all for your mosquito suggestions. I would love to try the goldfish idea, however, I know that they will be eaten or they will die. That part I don't love. Maybe the cooking oil. About how much would I need? You can see how small my fountain actually is. Thanks again, to all. Have a safe and wonderful July 4th! Ilene
