About gimlet

I retired early and for the past three years I have been doing the things that I really love & enjoy. I am always working in my flower beds, regrouping plants each year as I find new ones to add, rooting cuttings from my plants for my neighbors/friends & those given to me to root. Last Christmas, my husband, two girls, & my friend gave me a 10'x12' greenhouse which I had wanted for awhile. My younger daughter calls me an earthworm because I’m mostly on my knees with my hands in the dirt. I water my lawn daily since it has been so dry, good that I live on the lake and have a pump so lake water can be used. I cut my lawn 2 to 3 times a week and trim around all my flower beds to keep the yard looking manicured. Recently, my yard was certified by the National Wildlife Foundation and my sign is proudly posted in my yard.

During the summer and into fall, I pick & dry flower seeds for later planting.  Also, I dry any flowers and leaves that can be used for wreaths & other decorations when the weather gets cooler & outside work slows down. I collect acorns, pinecones, sweetgum balls, odd pieces of wood, berries, bark that has fallen from tree trunks, leaves, and anything that catches my eye during nature walks.  I see beauty in all of nature & try to preserve things that can be used in other projects.

When cold weather arrives, I spend time in my craft/woodwork shop making unique items that are made from trash to treasure finds or made from scratch with the tools/equipment in the shop. For example, I used a tree stump, carved out the worm trails under the bark, flattened the bottom & top, burned a checkerboard design on top, colored the squares with red & black water paint, used a small limb to cut discs for the checkers & colored them, polyurethane the whole thing.  Also, I carved  a chunk of wood out to make a tray to hold the checkers.

When inside the house, I use my sewing/craft room to make pillows, shower curtains, Chritsmas stockings, curtains, runners, etc. I have a huge collection of material, dried flowers, beads, glasses, & many different odds & ends to craft with.  I just have a love of creating, woodworking, & crafting using all my crazy ideas.  That's happiness!!!!!!!

Happy Gardening.............there's no thumb like a green thumb..............
