WOO-HOO! I've got Bandywine, Yellow Pear, and Early Girl Tomato seedlings breaking ground in my seed trays today!!!

I have Blackseed Simpson Lettuce, and French Breakfast Radishes coming up in my cold frames!!

My first onion has broken the ground also!!!

I do believe I will have to sit back and smoke a c-i-g-a-r to celebrate. I've never done much before with growing veggies from seed. Especially the seed tray thing.

I may try to construct something under plastic outside for lettuce but there's still snow on our ground, although the plastic should heat up the ground faster. I read about how destructive voles are - not sure if we have voles or moles down south but have seen tunnels. None at this location. One more thing - those brandywine tomatoes are going to get HUGE! The plants and the tomatoes so you may want to plan some type of support to keep them off the ground & the slugs off them. I think my biggest one was 2 lbs! This year I am growing the Amish Paste which is excellent for canning, Hillbilly, very similar to Brandywine, cherry, roma & early girl. Congratulations on all your work! Debbie in IL :-)

bsmitch	Mar 10, 2008 \| 5:04 PM PST I want to add a little note. Voles are bad, they eat roots. Moles are a nuisance but are good, they eat the grubs that destroy the lawn. Don't poison the moles, just flatten down their tunnels before cutting the grass. Check it out on the web. Your friend, The Hillbilly

I like your cold frames too, they look like they are simple enough to construct. Everything looks like it is growing right along. Barb
