How to care for tomatoes

First of all, I am now harvesting some beautiful tomatoes from my topsy turvy planter, however, how do you prevent the black rot at the bottom of the tomatoe? How often do you water and how often do you fertilize them? Although some of the tomatoes from the upside down planter are really nice and blemish free, some have bottom rot although the one I cut up did not go all the way inside, almost just the skin and then some. I had followed the instructions of one gallon of water everyday when the plant matures.

Fertilize maybe once a month |

I have found that if you cut off the bad part and slice the remainder, it goes very well with bacon, lettuce, and mayo on toast. That's the way I take care of tomatoes. Y'all have a great day. The Hillbilly |

Blossom end rot is from lack of calcium. Hard to get in the soil after the tomato is growing. I was advised to use Ferti-lome Yield Booster when watering. It's heavy calcium, and will get to the plant immediately. Never planted an upside down tomato-It's all new! Tomatoes are heavy feeders-fertilize often. I am glad you asked that question because I had a couple with end rot. We consulted the books, they said add calcium. Maybe I will try that Fertilome. Glad you are getting a good crop. |
