The strong winds did not prevail or punish clematis Empress alhough others are truly hit by the strong winds such as my clematis Josephine which wilted even before the buds bloom and clematis Lasurstern wherein the tepals were blown away. I had to shield some of my potted clematis with anything I can lay my hands on or else, the howling wind can do much damage. Only this one is standing strong while the others are struggling. Good thing Niobe is in the ground and mostly covered by a tree and an arbor. I think spring this year will be a struggle for all my plants if the current blustery weather stays much longer.

yardgranny6	Apr 14, 2008 \| 6:16 PM PST I saw a fantastic purple Clematis on a mailbox this weekend. It looked like the Jackmanii, just huge flowers. So sorry your little plants are having it so bad. Wind can really tear them up. So glad we don't usually get much wind. Though I don't like to say that out loud - we could just get some nasty weather that takes everything out. LB
bsmitch	Apr 14, 2008 \| 7:42 PM PST We are having a possible freeze in the morning. I'm prepared to get up at 6:30 and go out and spray everything that might have frost on them. This will save them. It is the annual cold spell called Dogwood Winter. It will warm up in the afternoon and stay warm for a week. You have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell

witt	Apr 15, 2008 \| 10:46 AM PST Oh, my. I hope there won't be too much damage. It's windy here again today. My poor Zepherine has taken a beating this spring. I hope the winds die down some when they bloom or they'll be blown all over the yard.
