New Cannas

Today I received six canna plants I ordered from Ebay-Orange Punch, they were so well packaged and a great value. I potted them up as well as some tubers (Tangelo) I purchased locally-added to my laundry room and now I realllllly long for a greenhouse! Half of my laundry room is full of several large brugmansia & plumeria plus recently potted gloirosa vines and now the cannas. I am thinking of adding a grow lamp on the counter, but need to know how efficient they are-I will post elsewhere for that answer.
Spring really is around the corner!

I love cannas and have grown them the last four years. A neighbor gave me five tubers at that time. Mine did so good and I never dug them up as you are advised to do in zone 6. To my surprise, my neighbor wanted them back this fall. I didn't know they were just loaned to me. They had multiplied to about twenty, so I dug five of them and stored them in a root cellar. The rest I just covered with leaves and I am sure they will come back in all their glory again this year and fill up the space made available by the dig up. Never thought about having to ask if a friend wanted their plants back!! So glad the cannas did well. Now you can share with the neighborhood. I have enjoyed watching the hummers in the canna blooms a friend GAVE me :-) |

Last year was my fist w/cannas so I hope they come back. I planted banana cannas and others as well. I have many friends who would love to give me back some invasive plants I unwittingly gave them in my early gardening days! Andrea |

The greenhouse - I never knew how bad I wanted one! I have been checking structures and prices and still have no clue which one - standalone or attached to the house. I have learned that being on the same heat as the house (even though we have 2 heat systems) like my solarium is not a true greenhouse - it has to be a separate entity. Cannas are gorgeous - I just sent my aunt a plant. Keep track with pictures .... Debbie :-) |
