Okay, this is like sharing your personal journal-don't worry, no secrets here, though if you have any garden secrets to share, I am all ears.
My garden is broken up into several "rooms". I really enjoy the challenge of gardening with unusual plants, especially dealing with an abundance of shade with poor drainage. We have recently remodeled our home which included new windows and cement board siding-translation: many tromped plants when the guys left. On the bright side, I now have an excuse to buy more plants!
On a personal note, I am newly married (was a widow) to an amazing man who happens to be an interior/residential designer. He has another project in mind for an addition, which would mean redesigning part of the yard, yet again another opportunity to buy plants (w/o guilt!) Combined, we have five children (15-24) , only one living with us (my 17yo daughter) and my mother who has Alzheimer's has an apartment here. We have two dogs, two cats and visits from a grand-dog. I am a bit worried about our new puppy, she loves to sprint through the dormant garden-eeck, more training ahead!
That's enough about me. I would enjoy hearing any tips on keeping puppies out of the garden, favorite nurseries or gardens, even any hints about caring for an elderly mother w/Alzheimer's would be helpful!

Thanks Linda! I loved viewing your photos as well. Great idea with your trellis, you are very creative. It must be nice having the added heat in your area, your plants grow larger than ours with limited heat and tons of moisture. You have beautiful Brugmansias-their fragrance is heavenly. Are you able to leave them in the ground all year? Mine are in my laundry room along with many plumeria. As the old saying goes " grass is always greener". ~Andrea |

Want to say welcome also.I have a son living in Maple Valley, Wa. He and his wife have three girls, two in college and one in high school. Anyway, about your puppy and the garden, sprinkle red and black pepper around and that usually puts a halt to the intrusion. I bought plants last year that were supposed to repel cats and dogs. Save your money, they stink, but don't work. Have a good time in your garden. Bill Mitchell |

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Bill! We have not had a puppy for years and this one is full of vinegar (adorable though!). Our other rescue dogs minded the no-entry rule and stayed on the grass or pathways, happy to be near us...I had tried an icky smelling granular product in the past to rid the cats from my containers and really did not want to go that route again. I just enlarged some photo copies of a photograph from my yard and decopaged it to the backsplash...then coated with urethane :) |
