A Change of Heart

I was able to stay out from 6:30 til 9. Then the heat ran me inside. Got some weeding and watering done. I have a bed on the side of the house that I had not mulched yet. I had bought a bale of beautiful pine straw to put down. Finally got around to it this morning. Yall, all I could think about was how much I really wanted something in an advanced state of decomposition to put around my flowers. I found the straw to be too "new" and hard and prickly. I have learned my lesson about changing out mulch and straw. I will certainly continue to use the straw that I rake up, but I have got to have soft, crumbly, aromatic, earthy, composty mulch. Guess I better go turn my compost pile! Hope you all have a good one!

Yep I agree there girl. I think the only time now I would want to use pine straw is perhaps around the Azaleas in the front. Otherwise, get me to the free mulch. Linda B |

I got a very large pile of hard wood chips from the RECC tree trimming crew. As they trim branches away from the power lines, they use a chipper and then take those to a land fill. If you ask, they are happy to give some to you. You have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell |
