Garden Zone: 8a

Plants in my Garden: pecan trees, daffodils, azaelas, pansies, roses, hydrangea, hens & chicks, iris, sunflower, coreopsis, marigold, impatiens, snapdragon, dusty miller, esperanza

Favorite Aspect of Gardening: I just love flowers - from the time I was a little girl I would pick boquets and bring them in. I would take bouquets to my teachers, to my mother. I would do May day baskets for my neighbors. I just love flowers.

If I'm not in my garden, I can usually be found: at my computer or watching birds or taking photos

About efprince

Hi my name is Edith and I'm a native Washingtonian transplanted to NE Texas.  My husband and I met when he was in the U.S. Navy and stationed in Washington state. We've lived all over the country (Alaska, Florida, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Texas and Washington), but after he retired from the Navy we stayed in Washington state. But he always wanted to retire in Texas - his home - and so here we are!

We have been married for 38 years, we have two sons, ages 36 and 35. My oldest son lives in South Korea and teaches English there, my youngest son is a low voltage electrician and lives in Bremerton, WA. My husband is currently working at Red River Army Depot and will retire in about three years - I am retired and am an avid birdwatcher, gardener and genealogist. And I love photography. I've had a camera in my hand since I was 7 years old and am now on my 2nd digital camera - I love the 24X zoom so I can get close-ups of my birds!

We are living in the country which is a totally new experience for me - I have always lived in the city and now I have cows for neighbors and the lady across the street has horses and llamas. There are 14 pecan trees in my yard and not much else.

Spiders, hummers, and other stuff
I've been watching this spider for a while. He's on my office window, right above my shaded flower bed. For the most part, he just hangs there and he doesn't bother me and I don't bother him. I am not one of those women who are afraid of spiders, as ...

Gotta stop feeding the birds for a while
The other night there were EIGHT raccoons in the yard at around midnight or so. They were all over my bird feeders, climbing on my pots and plants and generally making a nuisance of themselves. I chased them off several times, but the little critters...

Never-ending story
Today is just a picture story about my never ending encounters with raccoons. This one happened in borad daylight - they are getting braver or more hungry . . . Now how to get over to those birdfeeders?    Guess I'll just climb this little o...

Container Gardening
For the most part, my gardening is done in containers right now. That's because we live in a rental house and our future has been somewhat uncertain. But now we have decided that we are going to just stay here in this rental house for a couple of yea...

Wanted: Plant Stand
I saw this plant stand in a little town in South Texas - I want it. I saw this plant stand in the yard of an old and apparently abanded house in Southeast Arkansas. I want it.  I have looked everywhere I can think of to find a plant s...
