Just found this site the other day.
I am a newbie to gardening, and can't decide what I'm more excited about trying to grow - herbs, flowers, or edibles! I had 2 spots broke up in my yard this year, one for flowers and one for veggies - but the heat took over and won........THIS YEAR..........but I have not given up!
I am married, mom to 1, stepmom to 1, granny to 1 (soon to be 3 as we have twins due in January).
We have about 3/4 of an acre, and am hoping to get enough seeds collected to plant a good portion of it next year. The less amount of grass we have to mow, the more help I'll get from hubby in the weeding department! I want to plant lots of veggies and at least 4 flower beds - one for each of the grandkids and one for me to enjoy. My yard is virtually naked right now - kinda just has it's undergarments on. There is a clump of peonies, a clump of bleeding hearts, a burgundy leafed tree of some sort, a sorely damaged magnolia tree (hubbys lawn mower couldn't stay away from it), a small maple, one good sized flowering bush and 2 tiny raspberry plants.
I hope to be able to build some raised beds for next year as I think those would be easier for me to work. The cost of filling them up might delay their use for another year or so, but at least maybe I can get them ready. I have not started any kind of composting yet, even though I know that I should - and will.....maybe.
I am in my 18th year of working at a local hospital. I worked med/surg for 12 1/2 years and am now working on a long-term psych ward. I really like my work (most of the time) and have a great bunch of co-workers now.
I relocated to Tennessee from Michigan in 1990 and will probably either stay here forever or go back to Michigan when we retire.
I am looking forward to meeting lots of new friends on this list.
