What would be the ratio/measuring to a garden that is 40 or so feet long by 20 or so wide...of pure horse manure. What other additives do you recommend to an already established garden but in desperate need of good nutrients. Would you recommend adding the manure this fall and a long with other nutrients and let it sit over winter? The garden has had loads of mulched up leaves, grass clippings, food scraps added to it through the past couple of months. It's just in bad shape. Although there are veggies in it now and they are doing just ok, I can see it's lacking the WoW factor. Just tell me what you think, if you don't mind.
There has been a break in the weather, thank you Sun Goddess! It is suppose to be in the 80's this week and it is so nice outside. Our neighbor has bats out the wazoo coming out of his attic area. Do you think if I make a bat house, I could get a few myself or are they already settled in there, no need to? I've spotted some hawks flying around, quite a few actually, love them. I hear roosters crowing everyday in this neighborhood, i just wish I knew where they were haha.
Bless you guys, have a great week!
Has anyone other than me been seeing droves of Locust this year? I hear them all day but at night it's almost deafening to the ears. I find them dead all over the place. Sometimes flying into the side of the garage. I need to get to my ol farmer buddy and share some notes and get some answers to my questions. I've noticed a few raccoon being hit in the road as well.
Leaves are dropping like crazy to save their energy with this somewhat of a drought we have been having. The Big Mighty Oaks in this neighborhood are dropping full branches as if a storm has came through, nature is suffering. I haven't seen any bees in a long time. I am thinking about buying a few combs and see if I can get them moving again...not too educated about it but I am reading into it. Bees are so fundamental to "life" and most people freak out, they don't want you your not on their food chain.
This weekend I will be spending my time scouring this new land and seeing it's potential for hunting. Maybe get some fishing in. A good ol catfish sandwich sounds good to me. Have a blessed and adventurous day everyone.
I'm sure most of it would have to agree that the weather patterns this year have been so out of whack. They've basically been out of whack for a couple of years now. As i always do, I watch nature around me or the lack there of because of this HoTT HoTT funk we have been in. When you see blue tail lizards running around your house outside...it's HoTT lol. I've been watching the squirrels build their nest pretty low, so does this mean the winter is going to be a cold blustery one, we will see. I say yes. Somewhere around Sept. maybe early October I see a bad storm hit the eastern sea board. I just have that feeling, no proof to back it up, I just see what I see. Ya, I'm a weirdo lol.
Tomatoes are coming in like crazy now, corn is almost done, and the weeds just keep on coming..yuck!
Pipeline up the street burst, we were without water for a bit, there was water everywhere as you can imagine.
I got my Sportsmans License and I have been doing so much fishing and when the time is right, I will be hunting....YES hunting for my winter food. With the way the world is, the price of food, the price of gas among many other things~you must be resourceful, if you can. I can't wait til I shoot myself a turkey for Thanksgiving WooHoo! I have been collecting firewood every chance I can get, my gosh the utility bills are outrageous too. I just hate to see the people in the world to be only concerned with getting "theirs", we are all brothers and sisters in Christ and we should pull together, not apart. I will always help those in need, it's the "right" thing to do. Well, I guess I have said enough for one day, off to the forums! Have an awesome and blessed day everyone!
Boy, have I been on a ride of a lifetime. Going through a divorce..still! Will be finalized in September. No apologizes needed, it was destined to happen. I have a new place now temporarily until I find my dream house on a farm somewhere in Spring-can't wait!
Where I reside now is a farely large plot of land..yippee! The wheels were turning that's for sure. At my old place the Share Garden that I had from Garden Guides was destroyed by the ex. Hurt me a great deal because I loved it so but I can begin again in the future. Just keeping it real as I always do.
This land needed TLC like crazy not to say that the owner did a bad job, it just needs a womans touch, is all. The Spring season was a wet one here in KY, and it has taken a while to get things to pop up and out. Just as the plants find there groove, here comes the African type weather...thermometer reading yesterday was 110 WoW! The AC unit is set on 69 and the house temp reads 81, just can't keep up with this sonic heat. My friends and I have joked about seeing Giraffes, Rhinos and Lions running thru the yard..too funny. With this type of weather we have been having it is hard to do anything outside enjoyable without wearing a towel around your neck. Make-up, you can forget it lol.
We have a small plot of veggies this year...Tomatoes, Corn, and Green Beans and a good patch of strawberries...the strawberries are still coming into harvest-love it! I've just had to put alot of things on hold because of "Life" and all it's ups and downs, soon I will have what I ultimately would like to. Thanks for reading...take care and have a blessed day everyone.
Let me try and explain this notion I have running through my brain.. Ever heard of people being of the earth, wind, water and wood? I've read about this before and never dismissed the idea of it and actually could see anyone being that close to these elements. As gardeners one would think, well yea I definitely dig the earth(pun intended) and one must water to keep it alive. The wind builds up the resilence and the wood could be classified as trees~oxygen that is needed in all the elements. Gardeners are natures best friend once you think about it. We have our part in being natures best friend. There are some who wouldn't pick up a shovel or get their hands dirty.. if they only knew..*grins.
Grandbaby is doing well and as sweet as she can be. I tell son, wait til she gets older and talks back and sneaks out of the house and lies about who she is spending the night with. I said your that guy who was with that girl who snuck out of her house.. He swears up and down, "that's not going to happen to me", all I can do is laugh my butt off. I say, dont say I didn't warn you LOL!
Had some really nice days and now we are under heavy fog and 80% rain today with possibilities of high winds and hail!! Did the weather guy really say, hail? We have a mole...again. Time to set up shop and catch it. As I sit here having a cup of joe with a dash of cinnamon in it, I extend the cup to all of you and wish you a very blessed and beautiful day.
To say the least, I am happier than a pig in slop at the moment. The momma did so good and the daddy looked like a deer in the headlights..he was so cute. After it was all over (the birth) he came out and said "I aint never seen no chit like that"! It was hilarious. His knees was knocking, hands shaking and he was as white as a ghost. I grabbed a hold of him and he cried and cried. So naturally I cried and cried...everybody started crying...Ashlynn is healthy and has a full head of hair. She weighed 6 pds 12 ozs. 21 inches. She's a beauty, of course. The momma asked me to come in there while she was in labor and I walked in there right when she was laboring and she let out a scream a blood curdling scream and scared me half to death...haha. I went over to her and grabbed her hand and said "let's do this", let's have a baby. A little before it was time, I stepped out and said, son, your about to be a dad, congratulations. Everything is on video right now and I have a few pics. Going back today to just get snap happy with the camera. Y'all are right, she can call me whatever she wants...I dont care. "Smiling". I will put the few pics I have Over the Garden Fence in my earlier thread. But, I will learn to post future pics in my blogs with her....See ya soon.
I will be taking time out this morning and going to the Salon to get partial highlights and a trim. I love my hairstylist and she does a fab job at the highlights but her cutting skills are not so good. Dont have the heart to ask someone else in the Salon to cut it. That's why I get it trimmed only. For five dollars while your getting your hair done they'll massage your hands and put this wax stuff on it. I really like that! I got this thing about getting a peddy. I just can't see myself putting my feet down in this thing knowing other peoples feet have been in there. That one is not for me! I seen this thing on Nightline about it and I wont go near it.
Made the Elf Door..now I have to figure out how to anchor it to the tree. Hubby took to that little Elf Door...he kept saying....how do you think of stuff like that. My father was very creative and my mother was very organized. I have both of those traits. I have to keep my hands busy...it keeps the mind idle. I've always explained it this way...I put the tool in my hand and it does all the work. I dont think about it....the hand starts to move and the thinking comes second..odd I know.
Before going to bed last night it began to snow...again. We only received 1/2 inch to 1 inch of it...thank goodness. I really am tired of the snow and the frigid temps. If I could just get some sun. Well guys and gals, it's time for me to take off. Heres wishing you all a wonderful and blessed day. Survivor is on tonight. Let the games begin...again..hehe
As if I have a choice. Call it cabin fever, seasonal adjustment disorder...I got it and got it bad..again. I have it so bad I bought a bag of potting soil just so I could run my hands thru it..yea it's that bad. Told hubby to give me some time in my hobby house to play in the dirt..He cracked up at me! I wasn't kidding, I was serious. LOL After spending time in the yard this weekend and seeing the buds swell on the trees and shrubs I got the Spring fever. I got a mile long to-do list that can only get done *outside*. Ok, I've calmed down...
We have this old but mighty Water Maple in our front yard and at the base of it, it is farely large. Well I cut-out a door that mimicks a troll or keebler door. Am going to be painting it today and when the weather breaks i'll put that thing up. Pondering the idea to make little toadstools out of clay and toss them about around it. Just passing the time is all. Hubby and son said to me, how do you come up with these ideas? I say, I'm bored and other than that, I dont know.
My son started his baseball conditioning and he couldn't be more excited. He has two more sessions left on his tutoring. He is studying for his Drivers License....I am in no hurry for that !!! He keeps asking me to let him drive in the neighborhood...that would be a big fat NO! I told him he has to go to Driving School..I've told y'all a little bit about him and he has a way of taking things to an extreme and he has no control over his behavior at times. This part of his journey in life scares the dickens out of me...cause I know how he is and can be.. I will admit that he has came along way from where he was til now. That makes me proud..still progress to make.
Well my fellow gardeners I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful and blessed week.
Well today is the day that our carpet will be installed. Oh I anticipate all the snow the company will bring into the home from all their back and forthness and measuring. I am so thrilled!! It snowed another 2 inches last night. We stayed up pretty late last night shoveling and making the path clear for them and wake up and it looks like we didnt do anything.. I am just so glad it's almost over and then I will finally be able to put things back in proper order. Today will be a working day that's for sure. When all this snow finally decides to melt, we will be so saturated for days following. I look forward to that too! I am being a smart butt right now..but vent is good I hear LOL. Theres the doorbell..time to put on my smiley face. Gotta go! Give me strength Lord! Y'all have a blessed and wonderful day.
Anyone partake in grabbing those snacks and beverages and plopping down on the sofa and enjoying all the events at the Winter Olympics? I just don't like it when any of them fall or injure themselves...I find myself curling up in a ball and cringing~hoping like heck it's not too bad.
Well......Heroes vs Villains on the show of Survivor is off to a good start. I am rooting for the heroes of course but your boy Rob is another one I like. The previews for next week show Rob on the ground unconscious, stay tuned in to see what in the world is happening there. Coach, the "Dragon Slayer" and Russell are among my all time favs to dislike..lol
The weather is calling for more snow. I am not a fan, sorry. I can count on one hand how many times I have seen the sun in 30 days. I need more sun!
The soreness I had from playing in the snow has finally subsided and my legs are functioning alot better. I went out last night and made a turtle out of the snow just for the heck of it. The snow is melting rather quickly and I am so happy for that. For all the families that have been hit hard with these winter storms, I pray for you. Bless you all, stay warm and keep your spirits up.
With all this snow, what rather to do than to make something out of it. We made a huge Snow Castle and uploaded to all the news channels and low and behold they showed it on air. That's the good part...The day following I can hardly move a muscle and I feel like my body has been stretched in a vise LOL. I have to laugh because as I woke up my legs wouldn't work, my back froze up, my arms were so tight I cold barely move them. It's ok tho, I had alot of fun making it but at the same time...I think wow, you are really out of shape, chick! To top that off my son was begging me to go sleigh riding at the floodwall. I said sure son, let me add insult to injury....let me get dressed. So, we went and to tell you the truth I couldn't tell if I hurt anything further LOL.. What topped it all off was, my son said to me, mom I am sore! I'm like...Yes!!! I am not the only one. You know that saying, "I feel like I've been hit by a Mack Truck", well I have never been hit by a truck but I'm going with that saying.
We have been doubling up on feed for the birds. The squirrels will only come out when they see us bring corn to their feeders. I put the corn on the feeder and two squirrels came barreling down the tree to see who was gonna get it first and they didn't care if I was there or not. We were face to face. They both got fed needless to say. We have starlings out the wazooo.
I have been painting alot of different things, flower pots, lamp shades and 16 x 20 frames for hubbys Kentucky Wildcat room. I keep my Hobby House heated and every cat on our block tries to go in there thru the cat door. I just let them while i am in there. I can't let them freeze so they are welcomed for a short period of time. I have made some make-shift cat beds and shelter for them outside under my carport. I dont want them to pee in my Hobby House! So I put a litter box outside for them.. I am writing down my wishlist for the upcoming Spring orders of seed. I can get out of hand with those seed books...who cares. Ha!
Bless you all and my wish is for you All to stay safe, stay healthy, and keep warm until Spring actually arrives.
In the early am-2:30am to be exact a very loud cracking of the sky ocuured. The kind where your asleep and your whole house and body rumble at the same time. Then here comes the amazing crack and then booom! I jumped out of bed an ran into the living room...I have no idea why I did that! Here come all the pets on a rampage toward the bedroom like a scene out of Jumanji. I go towards the back of the house where they were and there it is...a very large Oak Tree had fallen two yards over and the tip of the tree is in my backyard-that is how big this mighty Oak Tree (was). I have been awake every since. I go wake up hubby, the man can sleep through a tornado I do believe. I say to him, we have to get the chainsaws out~we have a tree in our backyard and it's lying all over the flowerbeds. With alot of hesitation from him we got dressed and away we went. It took a little over 4 hours to get it cut up. Amazingly there was no damage to the beds or the chain link fence it was resting on. The tree did put some big crater like holes in the ground from the branches but who cares..right!
Our temps have been a little irregular for this time of the year. It has been in the 50's and a few days in the 60's. Well beginning of this week we will see temps in the low 30's and low 20's. No wonder the daffs are playing peek-a-boo.. The cannas, banana plants, and elephant ears I have stored away have "already" started rooting...that is real odd considering they don't come out of hiding until at least late March early April. Well, that's about all for now. how is your weather fairing in your neck of the woods? God Bless you All!!
