I harvested the rest of the garlic today. It was in the ground too long I think. Some of them had spider eggs around the bottom of the stems. I left them for the animals.
I got what I wanted and am in the process of curing them now.
I also started to gather some onion. Much better than last year. I didn't cut the tops off this time and let the energy of the plant go into the bulb. I've got some decent sized onion this year.
I only dug up 3 for now. Harvest isn't officially for another month even though the onion are edible at all stages.
I'm so excited. I found another cucumber baby in the garden. I also think I should have little baby tomatoes by the beginning of next week.

That's super! I'm glad that you had some good luck with the garlic and onions. I hope you'll get a nice crop of tomatoes soon, too.

I am just learning about growing garlic. It was a share from my DIL's mother. I have one Cherokee Purple tomato just about ripe. Can't wait to cut into it and see the color.

Sounds like your garden is producing nicely, Chris. It will be another month or so before we're ready to harvest garlic here in Zone 4b.

What if th egalic is small? Shoould I leave it for next year? In August there is a garlic festive here that has Garlic Ice Cream. I have NEVER had it. Doesn't sound good, I might be more daring and try it this year. I'll let you know what I think. =)

This is also my first year with garlic...I have been puzzled when to tell it is done...and how to cure it...can you share more?

Quite honestly I had to guess at the harvest time since I never got any garlic scapes (which come before harvest).
The garlic was in the ground 9 months. The bottom third of it was brown, so I just took them out.
I have noticed though that you get more flavour in the cloves if you let them air dry (cure) in the house for at least a couple of weeks.
