I got productive and planted every single tulip, crocus, and daffodil bulb I've had hanging around for the past year. I'm sure some of them are dead but you never know.
I finally got my garlic in so I will be planting in a couple of weeks. I have garlic bought online and garlic that I saved from the store. I will separate them so I can figure out if store bought really does grow and if so then I will no longer buy online.
Yay for Autumn. I love this time of year. I love the smell of the trees and the air and the foods that come with harvest and I especially love Halloween. I can't celebrate this year because too many people have requested time off for that day and since I am a manager that means I work.I look forward to when I don't have to work nights anymore and I can enjoy my very few holiday of the year that I actually celebrate.

I started some more herbs the other day. Oregano, basil, bunching onions, coriander/cilantro and dill. I already have a basil plant and some bunching onions growing. I like to keep things cycled so I don't have to run out and wait for another set to grow. I am really impatient. Everything is budding up nicely so far.

Well, two weeks ago we dug the outline for the garden and rented a tiller yesterday. We put in fertilizer and good dirt (since all we seem to have here in middle tennessee is clay and chalk) and let the tiller mix it all up. It looks nice. It will make it easier now to mix the compost there. Right before we start planting the garlic we think we will till the ground again just to make sure its all mixed up nice and good.
I have a seed starter kit from parks seed. I have started seed without the kit before and it's been fine but I figure since I will be starting a lot of plants at one time I should try the starter kit. We'll see how it goes.

I changed my mind and decided that I am going to do something different with composting and tilling. I'm going to start digging the space for my garden this week and use that whole area for compost. I don't know if this is a bad idea or if it's okay but I'm lazy and my thinking is something is better than nothing.

I'm still in the planning stages of my garden that will be in the backyard. I'm wondering if an 8x6 plot is big enough for cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, onions, garlic, green pepper and carrots. There won't be much as far as the tomato, cucumber and zucchini plants. Maybe only 3 each. Only two of the green pepper. There will be mostly carrot, onion and garlic because I go through a lot of those.
I think I will push back my tiling to the end of october. The ground is still workable. Then I can plant my garlic first.
I'm really excited about starting this garden. I hope it works out. I've always wanted to do this.

This year is the first year that I started growing vegetables. I have yellow onions, zucchini and tomato. The zucchini I think is dying. I've had to cut several leaves off. I think it has powdery mildew but I'm not sure because I have never seen a picture. But the leaves were very dry and turning brownish yellow.
The tomato is small but I think it's because I put it in a spot that doesn't get more than 4-5 straight hours of sun. Is this the reason? They are the size of a small fist. I haven't tasted it yet as I've got some tomatoes still from the store to go through first. I've tried some miracle grow but I'm pretty sure it's mostly the lack of sun.
The onions seem to be doing well. They are getting bigger. Does anyone know if cutting the greens to eat slows the growth of the onion. I can't seem to find any information about that?
