Boy did I ever have a scare tonight! I was on the riding lawn mower this evening and all of a sudden a black bulldog came out of nowhere and chased me all the way to the house! He was snarling, barking and nipping toward my leg and foot and I was trying to drive the mower as fast as it would go! I finally turned the mower toward him and finally about the time I got to the house he turned and ran away. Now mind you he chased me quite aways and no one could here me calling for help because of the mower noise. I could not let up on the gas or the mower would die.. so i just kept going! My blood pressure was up and my heart pounding by the time I was able to get into the house. My hubby was watching the Cardinals on TV and had no idea I was having a problem..!! That was a coupld of hours ago or so.. not sure whose dog it is, but I am going to find out and make sure they know their dog gave me quite a scare!

Aurora	Jul 19, 2008 \| 3:43 AM PST How scary! As Rascal said- there should be some sort of leash law. Of course we dog owners always have those occasions when they get loose, but I would want to know if my dogs threatened someone! (highly unlikely, but you never know)
Pameliap	Jul 19, 2008 \| 6:01 AM PST You should make a report to the sheriff or police as well. The run-in with the dog could be a one-time event, but if not, you may need to have documentation of repeated offenses to have anything done.

bussete1	Jul 19, 2008 \| 11:27 AM PST Maybe you want to keep some sort of dog treat on you while you're mowing the lawn. That will distract the dog while you get away, and it will make the dog friendlier.

I called the neighbor (they are nice people really0, but got no response. I am going to try to give them another call when I am sure they are home. I do know that my heart was pounding and I came in and after awhile I took my bloodpressure.. even after 1/2 hour it was still elevated.
msweetstuff	Jul 21, 2008 \| 3:53 PM PST Chatty, turning the mower towards the dog was the smart thing to do, you should never run from a dog, they will see you as prey. Turn on the dog and do some growling of your own. You are the ALPHA not the dog. It really does work, I know that for a fact. I used to live in the country and people would dump their strays. As a child, I was bit while running from a dog. Never again, I stand my ground, stomp my feet and growl loudly. Hey, it might look and sound funny but it saved my butt several times. lol
