We have power!! Yippeee!! You have no idea how much I missed you guys!!
The snow started on Friday, Freezing rain Sat, more freezing rain Sunday, Monday freezing rain and sleet, Tuesday freezing drizzle and rain all day, today.. misty rain..ice still hanging on the trees, but it is melting slowly. You don't dare walk out side much for fear of ice falling on your head or a branch coming down. Driving down the streets of a nearby town was eerie. It looked like a disaster zone, no lights, debri everywhere, ice hanging from everything.. weird
All in all I had no power for about 3 days, 2 nights with no heat..
we finally had to make our way to the nearest bigger town and purchased a generator. Merry Christmas to us..LOL
Son in law and a friend brought the generator home and helped hubby to get it wired into the breaker box. Then a few hours later we noticed fumes in the basement, so had to shut it off for the night.. the house got down to about 55 degrees and hubby could not use his oxygen. Then we got it fixed where no fumes could make it in the house (they were coming in the dryer vent!) Temps outside were running about 26-33 degrees, so that made the difference between freezing rain and snow I guess.
So for 2 nights we about froze in the house, too slick for hubby to get out (high risk of bleeding if he takes a fall) so we had to decide which was the best thing for him.. no oxygen for sleeping or trying to get out on roads the police says not to..? no good choice..
Our area took a big hit, was declared a disaster area by the governor, and declared a state of emergency. It is so sad to see all the trees glistening with about 1 inch of ice or better.. just broken and tossed about. Much property damage and vehicles that trees came down on etc.. Ice storms are nasty business!~! Praise God, no serious injuries.
I went thru the fridge.. since there was no power most things were not kept cold enough, so I had to throw almost everything out. Have not even looked in the freezer yet., but it was never opened at all so hoping I did not lose all of that!
We were blessed by the help of hundreds of electric companies coming to help out from all over the state, and many other states as well. I know for sure many came from KY, IN, MO, OH and PA. God bless all those poor people who were out in that nasty weather working hard to get thousands of homes back on the power lines. We thank you! It is quite a site to see a caravan of those big electric trucks driving down the highway..
