De-leafing tomatoes

I posted this under vegetables, but maybe I'll get some play here. I read an online article about removing almost all of the leaves from a tomato plant to get bigger yield of the tomato. Supposedly the plant will put more energy into producing tomatoes rather than supporting the leaves. (note-it did not say to remove ALL leaves). Heck, tomato worms will remove lots of leaves! Anyway, my tomatoes are heavily leafed this year and I have lots of tomatoes; I don't know about this! Anyway, could have bought the book for 39.95 and learned more. Anyone hear of this or done this?

I've never heard of that, but my Mom advised laying the tomatoes down and covering part of the stem; it works and they are stronger. |

On a website that I read, it is the leaves that make the tomatoes sweet so I leave them alone except for a few that grow in between the stem and a branch but even that it says that it is also a sucker that may or may not produce tomatoes. True enough, I tested this on my hanging tomatoe and it is indeed showing buds now. |

My brother-in-law always takes off the suckers, don't know about the leaves. Me, I leave on everything because I have trouble telling what the suckers are as opposed to the rest of the plant. |

I just don't think I'm gonna remove very many leaves from my plants. I know about suckers, I always remove them (they can be used to start more plants-I've done that, too) If I had several plants I might try it, but I think I'll leave well enough alone! |
