2008 Cicada Brood XIV update

The 17 year cycle of the cicadas is in full progress in my yard here in Russell County, Kentucky.
This cicada is coming out of it's shell on the tree.
This cicada's wings are still wet and waiting for them to mature.
Another cicada coming out of it's exterior skeleton.

Is the headless animal a cat or a dog? My brothers and I used to collect the empty shells in the summer. |

I love those pics!!! When I was little I collected their shells when I found them. Now my girls do the same thing. lol |

And for me, it's not summertime until you hear those things singing, screaming, whatever you want to call it, I love the sound of them, although, when we had the 17 yr cycle here, the sound was a little overwhelming, to say the least! |
