Well it's definatly summer time in SC. HOT HOT HOT. Too hot by 9am to really even feel like getting out and doing anything. Tomatos are like a jungle but producing greatly!! This years garden was....well shall I say a learning experience lol. I now know that you have to SPACE out your tomato plants or you end up with a tomato jungle. Same with the carrots or you literally get a bunch of carrots =) Love sugar snap peas but not so crazy about growing them. Next year I will buy cucumber plants since my two attempts at using seeds were unsuccessful. And i definatly need more than 2 rows!! My boyfriend whom I live with said the other day that I surprised him. He just knew that after 2 weeks with the garden I would lose interest and it would die off and that would be that (which I now know is the reason he didnt want to put alot of money into it =) But he is rather proud and suuuuuuure has eaten up some of the bounty. He is uber excited for my attempt at collards. They are one of his fav veggies and boy he sure can cook them!!
I gathered up some dead heads from the front flowers and planted the seeds to see if I could actually do it and to my surprise I looked this morning and I have something sprouting!! I think it's a zinna! Can't wait to find out what it is!
And my poor pooch has fleas!! I dont get it! She gets frontlined and everything and out of 4 dogs only one has them! And of course its one of the inside dogs. Fun fun. It hasnt been too bad yet. I'm treating her, bathing her, checking her over, etc. She has cut down on the scratching and her poor belly isnt red from bites anymore. But she still has a few. Tried something called Capstar today. Its some kind of pill that will kill all the fleas on her within 24 hours. Which is fine except it only works on 2 cycles of fleas. So there may be more depending on if she has any flea eggs on her. Hopefully not with the flea dips and baths and all. Fun Fun. I hate this so I can only imagine the fun i will have when kids start bringing home lice.
Hope everyone had a great 4th! We spent the whole weekend vacated from our house due to the hallway hardwood being redone. Thats a stinky job! The stain part wasnt so bad but when he put the poly down Sunday I couldnt stand to be inside! And the worst part is that we could not get to our bathroom so of course every ten minutes I had to pee lol. We went and watched some fireworks saturday and had a movie day sunday. Saw Ice Age and UP...both very cute.
Got my first red tomato out of the garden and wouldnt you know I turn it over and there is a big worm taken up residence in it. Oh Well. He has a great home atleast but it sure was a pretty mater =( I have a few more almost ready so no worries.
On Call from work today so pretty much have to hang around here until they need me.
FINALLY!! Monday is here! Long weekend at work and so ready to just relax!!
Discovered more baby maters growing! Still waiting for some red ones =) Started some more green beans because someone hit the first group with roundup by accident while cutting the grass...
Sugar snaps died so those are pulled up and can't decide what to put there.. any ideas?
My cone flower in the front is in full bloom! It's so pretty! One of my fav's now. But my bright pink daisy has died down. I cut it back when the flower wilted like the lady i got it from said but now it looks like the whole thing is dying...is that normal? or has my black thumb emerged and claimed its first victim?
Oh well. Might try to go swimming later or just have a puppy day at home =) Have a great day everyone!
So I just did my first front yard flower project! There are cut outs in the hedges so I did pots and all along the bottom between the pots i put Cox Combs, which I think are some of my fav's now.
The corners I made this tispy stand like one I saw at the zoo. I put different kinds of annuals in it. Now the names I can't remember!! Some day I hope to be able to remember all this little flowers names! I know there are snap dragons, and I think marigolds and vincas or something.
This one the lady told me was called a Tigers eye and I put some pink flowers in front for contrast.
This one has a cone flower that hadnt opened up yet when i bought it with some snap dragons in front.
And the cone flower is opening up this morning!! So excited!!
This pot has a bright pink gerbera daisy that I could not live without with some little whie flowers in front that have multipled like crazy by now!!
Then I have a put full of zinnias that was love at first site!! They have a bright pink center that fades to a fabulous orange then a yellow!! Love them!!

So...the hardest part I have found about gardening is having patience!! Having to wait for the flowers to bloom is exhausting!! Right now I'm waiting for the tomatos to ripen! They are getting so big I can barely wait to have a thick juicy tomato sandwich with miracle whip! A great treat I came to love thanks to my granddaddy!
