For the first time in over ten years I have tomatoes from my very own garden. Ohhhh the taste. I've been eating tomato and cucumber salad like there's no tomorrow.
Well, yesterday evening I was beginning to believe that there was no tomorrow. I have never ever in my life had heartburn like I had. I ended up sending my husband to the drug store at 10:00 for some relief. I finally fell asleep after screaming and holding his hand for about an hour. Don't you know, some time during the night, it starts up again. My husband said he had it also during the night, but I think it was the tomatoes. I ate a bunch!
This is the entire garden. The tomatoes are now red. The cucumbers aren't doing so well and we don't know why. The cantelope is looking great. It's one of the plants I tried the winter sow thing on.
Ya'll have a great day and I'll be staying away from the tomatoes. Or maybe, if it was the cucumber, I could just eat the tomato. : )

I believe tomatoes can give you heartburn because of their acid content..I use Pepsid 24 hour for heartburn. It stays away longer...

Yes tomatoes, cucumber and heartburn go hand in hand...Believe me I know. But I haven't had it as bad as you had it. I grow the 444 tomtoes because they are not suppose to have as much acid in them. Hope your feeling better. Have a nice day...reba/La.

Isn't it great to have really fresh food to eat. If the heartburn returns, you should see Dr. Could be something else. Bill, no wonder mother's can't get children to eat vegee's. Love your humor.

I agree with veggiegardener. Take some Pepcid AC. Or Pepcid complete. I am no doctor, but I have acid reflux disease. You may want to have yourself checked out. Once that acid reflux is under control, you can go back to eating tomatoes. :) btw, your pics are great! - Karen

I also have a problem with stomach acid and have found that taking prilesec once a day keeps it at bay....i would say yea it was the tomatoes and/or cukes....they will definitely give you heartburn, especially if you eat a whole lot! Hope you feel better!!!
