Lovely bird

There is a cherry bay in the yard. One day, I found a empty nest in the branches, only about 2.5 meters high. Since I never saw it before, I guess it was newly built. Therefore, I always observed it after that day till one day when I found there was a bird in the nest. I was excited because I considered there will be some small birds since it is spring, all birds have small babies. From that day, I observed the nest everyday. After a few days, I heard the noise of small birds. Wow, the eggs were hatched. Sometimes, I could see their little head with the mouth widely opened to the sky. They looked so lovely. Their parents feeded them day after day. I forgot how many days past, perhaps 2 or 3 weeks, or even one month. Then one day, I found the nest was empty again. Where were the birds. It confused me. I looked around the tree and the yard. Then suddenly I found a small bird with full feathers stood in a corner of the yard. I walked towards it, then I heard two bigger birds shouted on the wires. I understood it right away. It was the hatched bird. I looked at it far from him. He saw me too, but did nothing. He was not afraid of me. Such a small innocent boy! I found two of them that day and only one on the next day. Perhaps their parents were afraid of me, I didn’t see them for a few days. Maybe they were transferred to other places or maybe they could fly. Anyway, I haven’t seen them for a few days. The nest is empty again. The cherry bay is quiet again. And I will move in a few weeks. Miss them.

I too understand how lonely it feels when the birds leave the nest. One year we had a bluebird family in one of my birdhouses. It was so much fun seeing the parents feeding the babies. Then one day everyone was gone. I felt like I lost some good friends, and missed them terribly. |

I've had birds nest in two areas of my yard. One time, they nested on top of a piece of furniture where I place my garden tools. The mom was rarely there, so I got to watch the babies hatch and grow. It was a sad day when they left...made even more sad by the fact that one of the hatchlings did not make it. :o( |
