Boy, oh, boy, where to start? We got back into town last night from a very busy week-end. Got lots of work done, have even more to go. It's getting quite chilly up north now, I don't know how many more trips we can make this fall, working around hubby's work schedule. We did take some time out from the work to walk around the property and explore more. If we hadn't done some homework and brought the GPS, we would have lost ourselves and be wandering around still. You can sure lose your sense of direction in the woods, particularly when it is overcast, which it was. But we found some neat things - a fence line, posts and barbed wire which we THINK is the back border of the property. The GPS coordinates were reasonably close. We found an abandoned hunting blind that (provided we weren't wandering on the neighbor's land) was probably left by the previous owners. Also discovered their own personal dump site. Nice, huh? Oh, and while riding the 4 wheeler, we scared up some animal that hubby said was a bear. I was on back, didn't see it. We left the dog at home with DD. She had things to do and the dog gets carsick on long rides, so just as well. The bothersome neighbor's dogs stayed away while we were there, except just as we were getting ready to leave the husky showed up. But he left without too much fuss. I posted some pictures in a new album of the property, and some more pictures of different mushrooms we found around the property in my fungi album.
I really have to dig the sweet potatoes this week. The vines are looking like they are dying back, so it's time. I have some chipping/shredding to do. All the spent plants need to be pulled up. Most of the peppers, tomatoes, beans, and cabbages are all done, so I plan to get those taken care of this week. The weeds aren't too bad in the vegetable garden, we have most areas covered with mulch, but there's some work to do in the flower beds where I don't usually mulch. I have some fall-planting bulbs that need to be planted. Today it's sunny, very little breeze, and not too cold (mid-60's), almost perfect weather for working in the garden. I hope to have 2 or 3 more days just like today this week so I can get done what needs to be done.
Happy Fall Gardening!

That's an awesome looking basket! I love your pictures. Do you have any new ones of your rain garden? |
