September is the time when I take stock of the plants in my garden, and decide which ones that need moved, and which ones I will discard, either because they don't behave, or because I just plain don't like them.
In my perennial beds, one thing that will be moved will be the yellow daylilies. They were sent to me by a gardening buddy from Missouri. To me daylilies are an okay plant, but not one of my favorites. These are pretty, so I'll keep a couple of them, but they need moved to the back of the bed. They got taller than I thought they would.
I need to find some more tall red plants to add to the 'hot' side of the garden. The beds on the right side need more to fill in with since Ken tilled up more soil for me. I have oranges, purples, and a few white things...but a punch of red is needed. I did find two Jacob Cline Monarda a few weeks ago, and they have been planted and getting established quite nicley. I've wore my gardening catalogs out looking for something that might work in that area. Maybe some red hollyhocks might be the thing since I lost my other ones this year when I transplanted them.
The right ('cool') side is in pretty good shape. I will add some more milkweed, plus some Joe Pye Weed for my butterflies in the back part of that side that was tilled.
Isn't that the best part of garden though....planning, moving, deciding which plant will work. So many seeds...so little time. A garden is never finished.
