About SunGirl

Hello,

BJ here, (BettyJean) and I am excited to be here and find more gardeners online! I have been gardening since I was a kid, over 40 years. I have had gardens as huge as possible on a the farms I lived on (almost too big to keep up with) and smaller ones at houses in the country. I gardened with my mother and she did with hers and we also do our own canning. It is a long time family tradition that I love immesely and will never outgrow.

Currently, I own a condo in the suburbs and have a few pots on the steps and a little garden plot across the street that some of the townhomes in my association share. It is right next to a protected nature preserve along a creek and is perfect for my hobby. Gardening is second only to FISHING, which is my favorite outdoor activity. I also like to bike ride. My favorite indoor thing is cooking, I am a gourmet chef and love to create delicious food! I do a lot with herbs including cooking, teas, oils and medicinal uses.

I love animals and have had all kinds including horse, dogs, cats, ferrets, and others. I have a chronic illness and have to deal with sickness and pain a lot but animals and nature are good therapy. I can no longer support myself financially the way I once did working 50-60 hours a week in the restaurant/bar business as a bartender, manager and chef so I go to school part time and have a pet sitting business part time. Any day I can work in a garden or go fishing is a Good Day!

I would like to meet other like-minded people here and look forward to sharing!

Treat the earth well.
It was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors,
we borrow it from our Children.

Good 'Ol Deer
Sure enough, the doggone deer got to my newly planted pepper, tomato and geraniums before I could get out my ammo. Ate off all the tops and blossoms. So infuriating! Such is nature when she is hungry...... I managed to get a bar of Irish Spring soap ...

Something I firmly believe:That clearly, the powers of the universe do not ignore the fact that our effort are involved in our beloved hobbies and life's work; people plant seeds, care for livestock, and prepare food from those crops, gardens and...
