Earth Day was a wonderful one for me this year. It just happened to also be my mom's b'day, so I got to spend it with her. It felt appropriate that I should spend Earth Day with the person who has taught me the most about nature and gardening. She started me out as a little kid helping in the garden and watering her plants. For that, I am greatly appreciative.
Eventhough it was Mom's b'day, I ended up getting all the presents! First, she started off helping me collect some cow patties from her cow pasture for my compost and flower beds. Then, she gave me some English Ivy and Vinca that hopefully will take off on the bare hill beside my house and slow down the erosion. The sedum I planted there died. Finally, she gave me a big chunk of her hydrangea that I am always so envious of! Yeepee! She told me to come back and get some more daylillies and irises too this weekend as by this time it was getting dark. Oh yah, almost forgot, I mentioned to my step-dad that I needed a trellis for my clematis and he built me a fan shaped one in like 30 minutes from scrap lumber he had! She knew what she was doing when she married a carpenter! He built her the most gorgeous gazebo out front that everyone drools over!
My kids always love going to "Nana's" house. She lives out in the country and has the most beautiful piece of property. They run and play the entire time we are there. I love it b/c they always come home wore out and ready for bed! ; ) My son even volunteered to cart the wheelbarrow to the cow field for us. All in all, it was a purty good day!
