Help I think I am Killing my Pitcher Plant!!!

I love my pitcher plant, but I think I am killing it... I got it for Christmas and was taking care of it indoors during the winter season. Well, eventully all the pitchers' turned black and started leaking so I cut them off.... The the majority of the leaves' that the pitchers' were attached to started dying. I having been keeping it out side now since the weather is nice, it seems to be looking ok, but is there something I can do to help incourage more growth since most of it had to be cut off???? Any tips???????

Sara I think if you post this question in the Other Flower forum you might get more results. Also if you put 'pitcher plant' in the search box it will lead you to an old post from "Joybells2" who is still on the GG website. Hello Sara, yes you do seem to be having some problems with your pitcher plant. A photo of it would be handy to see what type of pitcher plant it is. I have two, neither of which has the traps turning black. The venus flytrap I have, does but this appears to be normal & I leave the dying traps for the plant to absorb. My pitcher plants (sarracenia), which seem healthy, do have traps which turn brown & crispy. This appears to be caused by either the sun (for one plant) & for the other, after digesting the prey. That is the one that goes brown at the bottom of the trap, just above the stalk. These I also leave so nature can take its course & reabsorb the nutrients from the traps & will cut off only when most of it has gone brown. My plants are in peat moss & are only watered with rainwater. If using tapwater, let it "air" for at least 24hrs to rid it of the chlorine. Water it frequently & don't let it dry, they are swamp plants. Avoid insect sprays if kept indoors & don't feed it meat. Hope this has been of some help but I'm sure there will be othes who are more knowledgeable than I. All the best with your plant. PS. You should find that the new traps will grow from the centre of the plant. Mine seem to be still growing constantly. We are now in autumn where I live & my plants are on a sheltered patio where they will stay for the winter.Have yet to see whether they go into hibernation or not as we have a very mild winter climate.
