About Sherrieflower
I love nature! I have been gardening nearly all my adult life. My dad always kept a garden except when we lived in northern Wisconsin where he felt the growing season was too short to mess with. My husband promised me a "farm" by the time I turned 50 and came through on his promise by moving us to 10 acres in NW IN. I have mostly sandy loam soil that is more acidic than the clay alkaline soil I knew previously, I also inherited over 30 blueberry bushes with our property = mmmm! We have hundreds of naturalized daffodils in our spot of "woods", + bloodroot and a few trillium in bloom in April.
I am currently enrolled in the School of Natural Healing studying to become a Master Herbalist. It is so interesting to learn about the medicinal properties of plants! I am a member of the Master Gardeners in my community + another garden club and the local Prairie Writer's Guild. I am beginning my 3rd year as Market Master for our local Farmer's Market and have been selling the extra plants I propagate there + veggies I grow in my garden in the summer. I am starting small hoping to grow a business without incurring debt. Last year I grew some everlastings and made some wreaths and swags and hope to open up part of my garage as a gift shop and see if I can get people out to my location.
I take lots of photos of my plants in bloom etc.
I am a mother of a son and daughter, both of whom live quite a distance from us and 1 grandson + another grandchild due in Nov. Married 35 years this July. The only pet I have left right now is a box turtle. I feed him the grubs I find while I am digging in the dirt. Our precious Springer Spaniel passed away Jan. 2006 at 14 1/2 years. He used to trot up the garden path and make me take a "kissee break" then lay outside on the grass with his nose catching the breezes while he guarded the gardener. I miss him.
We have a large pond in front of our house and our property is registered with the National Wildlife Federation as a backyard habitat. We see all kinds of wildlife here and love it! Deer, Geese, Red Fox, coyote, skunk, possum, raccoon, Great Blue Heron, Kingfisher, just to name a few.
