Is there any kind of tree that would not work to bonsai? Whats the story with your wisteria? Do you leave it in the container and just keep it trimmed? My neighbor has wisteria so we get runners. I have dug up some of them and started a pot with some in it. The goal is to have a wistera that is trained in a tree type manner, maybe about 6ft with one main trunk made up of the multiple stems braided together loosely. Any advice on this would be welcome.

Oh, wow...I have been told many time 'You can't Bonsai that!'. Ha. Yes I can, and do whenever I am told this, hehe. I went to an eatery in Charlotte, NC once, the entire place was made up of living wisteria! The tables..the benches...the walls, the overhangs. I was so impresses I went home and built a simple structure over one of my ponds then proceeded to grow wisteria on it, when it trunked out well and was strong across the top I took down the structure, effectively making the wisteria a free standing structure! I will blog about training wisteria so you can get some ideas!
