I am leaving today to go back to NY. I have to pack up my house and get it ready to sell. I will return to SC aroung July 20. I am dreading this long car ride but am very anxious to get it all done with so that I can finally start my "new life". I don't usually like "change" but this one is long over due. While I am gone my guy is putting down hardwood floors in the 3 bedrooms. Right now the house is in a bit of turmoil. My Lhasa, Ginger doesn't have a clue what is going on except that "mommy" has been a little cranky!!
I will miss this site and I look forward to getting back to it and to the garden. I know it will be in desperate need of attention!! Happy 4th to all and happy gardening!!

Tag: mosquitos & flies
The moment I walk out the back door it has become inevitable that one of these rude and cruel suckers will dive bomb me! They come straight for my face and I have bites on my head and one between my eyes! Yes!!!! Between my eyes! I look like a cyclops! I hear them (it) coming (to me it sounds like a fighter jet) and I must look like a complete idiot flailing my arms trying desperately to swat at them and keep them from biting my poor delicate NY skin. I'm not winning this battle though and I am seriously thinking about getting one of those get ups that bee keepers wear.
I don't understand what it is about me that these monstrous flies like so much or how they even know I am coming out the door. 1st it was the darn mosquitos! I swear they hit their "zoom" button when I am outside because it doesn't matter what time of day it is, if I am outside they smell me and come full speed ahead. That annoying "zzzzzzzzz"..........
The big fat flies bite hard but I don't feel it until after. The mosquitos bite threw my clothes and socks!!! Nothing kills them!
What we have here is a failure to communicate. I keep trying to tell these critters that I don't bother them so why, dear God why?????????????????? must they torment me???
ps. BF said I should eat more garlic. Bugs don't bother him. Garlic does ooze from his pores so maybe he has a point there...hmmmmmmm.

Tag: power out
I spent most of yesterday in the kitchen cooking up the tons of tomato's and decided to make my mom's "Pizza soup recipe" . I'll be heading back to NY this Sunday to start packing up the house so I wanted to make sure my honey had enough to eat while I was gone. Steaming and pressing through the strainer for hours..........cooked it all up, made the "dumplings", sat down to let it cook a little longer, listened to the thunder pounding in the background, my little Lhasa under foot scared to death....................well.
.........apparently used the wrong flour because the "dumplings" sucked up all the soup and I had these massive fluffy and chubby but tasty balls of "bread".
A little after 6:30 pm BF comes home from work. I had just went out to the garden to pick some more blueberries when the thunder started again, then the tiny raindrops then pouring cats and dogs!! Within seconds the power went out and stayed out for a little over 2 hours. I thought I would climb the walls!! It seems like almost every day the power will flicker here and there and that's ok by me as long as I can still run the water, take a shower when I want or use the "facilities". BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.......now I was stranded! BF decides to take a little nap while I was antsy and anxious and annoyed. The animals were driving me crazy especially my Lhasa. All day long she drove me nuts under foot everywhere I went. I swear she can hear the thunder at least a half hour before I hear it!
I drove the BF crazy annoying him with my little flashlight. I kept shining it in his eyes. Why? Because I am use to living in civilization where stuff like this is fixed in minutes not hours!!
I guess I have a lot to adjust to.

Tag: Snakes
I was "informed" yesterday (just in a passing conversation mind you) that I should be "careful" of the rattlesnakes and copperheads. Apparently there are more Creepy Critters here than I had anticipated. I am not liking this at all. When I am out there pulling weeds or on my knees crawling around I certainly do not want to come across anything that will kill me. Oh!! And if I am bit........I was told that it is IMPERATIVE that I know what type of snake bit me because that is how the anti venom medicine is chosen. SO what happens if I think I am positive (yea, like I would be able to remember anything other than screaming my guts out!) of the type of snake and I am wrong? I think dead is the likely scenario. From what BF told me I have MAYBE (maybe he says????) 1-3 hours to get help. Hmmmmm......now I have to learn how NOT to be paranoid of snakes. What is eerie is Wheez, our cat, came in Saturday morning with cuts over his eyes. Actually, looked like pieces of fur were missing and a bit bloody. I thought maybe a snake, you know how you see them dart back and forth when they are attacking? Well, I've only seen that on TV but that is what I envisioned. I cleaned his face up and put some salve on it. It seems to be healing ok. I'm not doing so well though.......snakes???? NO WAY!!!

The blueberries are beautiful and delicious! We have been picking at least 3-5 cups a day! I have an entire shelf in the freezer filled with bags of these luscious beauties! Yesterday I made crepes for brunch and omg they were soooo good! I use lowfat vanilla yogurt on top of the crepe, add the fruit, roll up and devour!
