It's been a long time. But I'm glad I found this site again! I have moved back in with my parents and work in the garden center at the grocery store I work for. Needless to say, my plant collection is growing. I have a deep red double hibiscus, a Euginary Topiary (I'm pretty sure I misspelled the type, sorry!), a few strawberry plants and a handful of clippings that I'm waiting to see if they take root. I also have some iris's that I took from my old yard. I had origonally pulled about a dozen of these iris plants from the back yard where they had all been cramped into a two foot space under a fence. I got all of them that I could and planted them in the front yard in a five foot space about under a tree. They loved it, except that we moved out of the house and now some punks live there and they park their bikes right on the bed! Oh I was so upset, they chained their bike to the tree so I really couldn't move it off or anything. They let me take my calla lillies from the back yard a few weeks before and so I took an afternoon to dig up as many irises that I could and I gave some away to people I knew would try their best to take care of them and I kept some for myself as well because I love irises. Well there were a few that I left in the bed and they just started blooming and they're gorgous. Absolutely bueatiful. I had four plants that I put into a big pot so I could more easily find a spot they would like (turns out they didn't like the full sun of the sidewalk so I've pulled them onto the patio where there's a bit more shade) but the plants have begun to turn brown and dry out at the tips. I water them every day at least a half a pitcher of water and it seems to soak the soil well. I was wondering if there was anything else I could do to baby them and to help them heal and get over this funk they're in so maybe they'll bloom this summer or at least next summer?

Well, to tell the truth I haven't been out in the yard much the past
couple of days. But I'll share the things I have done. I planted some
morning glories (I think they're white, although they might be purple)
around the tree in my backyard. There's an iris poking out of the
ground in the sunflower and iris bed, which makes me super excited.
Although my sunflowers aren't growing like weeds like I hoped since I
put them in the ground. Perhaps I haven't been watering them enough? My
ponies still look miserable. Wildflowers are starting to pop up and I
can't tell them apart from the weeds yet. I finally got the calla lilies into the ground and I hope I'll be able to keep up with them. Now the only thing left is the darn mosquitoes, anyone have any suggestions to keep them away?

Took pictures of all my flowers today. The mosquitoes here are nasty, I don't like wearing shoes out in the yard but they make it so I have to! Any who, I'm quite impressed with my calla lilies (I planted them for Josh, my hubby). Before I started them I asked my dad about how to go about planting them and he said to give them tons of water, that I couldn't drown them even if I tried. So that's what I did. I got a shallow plastic container and I covered the bottom with soil and then filled it about halfway up with water. Then I put the bulbs in. That was about a week, maybe a week and a half ago. Out of eight bulbs there are only two that haven't done anything yet. The rest have little sprouts on them and I'm so excited, but I don't know where to plant them yet. The one that's been doing the best I actually put into a pot (it's my profile pic). I hope that moving it from basically a 80% water/20% dirt environment to a 80% dirt/20% water will help it grow even more. I figured since it started out in so much water, that I'll give the plant a good soak about two times a day and leave it on the porch so it continues to get lots of sun. It was kind of fun starting these bulbs out this way instead of just sticking them in the ground.
I'm still worried about my peonies. About the second week we lived here I had Josh dig them up so I could plant them by the porch. I think we lost a lot of their roots. At least they haven't gotten any more worse. If that's any sort of hope. I did some research on them and basically what I found was that peonies are very sturdy plants once they are established. My dad and I figured (judging by their roots) that the peonies had been by the garage for at least a couple of years so this summer they'll probably look pretty bad but next summer they should be looking fine. I debated cutting off the tops of them so they could just concentrate on getting their roots sorted out and all that but my dad said it wouldn't matter. After I planted them I watered them quite well for about a week then I stopped. I read that doing that would help them "get established". Of course then it rained pretty heavy after that. But like I said, they haven't gotten any worse.
Hopefully I'll get around to planting my morning glories tomorrow. If I do, there will be plenty of more pictures to come!

Tag: Aloe Vera
We've just had a bunch of rain where I live. I left my little aloe vera plant outside the whole time too. It doesn't seem to have grown much since I got it last summer. Although recently it has grown to a sickly brown color, which worries me. I've been trying to find out information about aloe vera plants and why this might be happening to mine. (Hence the discovery of this site :) ) I think that the plant may have gotten over watered (since it is a potted plant, but it does have adequate drainage) my husband thinks it's fine and that the problem isn't over watering. I just don't know what else it would be. Hopefully I'll get my camera back soon and I'll upload some pics of the plant to show exactly what I mean. I don't know if anyone will read this or not, but hopefully someone with some knowledge of aloe vera plants will and know what I'm talking about and maybe leave a suggestion of what do to for my plant. (I have a feeling my hubby will be loving the plant this summer since he gets sunburned at work all the time. :) )
