Is it a killer miller moth? or hybrid bee? or a mutant hummingbird?
Last evening around 7:15 we were attracted to a flitter around our butterfly bush. At first we thought it was a hummingbird. But upon close inspection we became dumbfounded.

Hummingbird Moths love my honeysuckle vines. I enjoy watching them at dusk. Not as many this year it seems as last year. |

We had the same exact experience this morning--one of these things caught my husbands attention and he was trying to describe it...not a bee, not a bird but some kind of mutant moth thing. I agreed YUP I've seen it too. I had to show him your blog with the pics and we are both so glad to have that clarified. Although I am a little more at ease just associating it with a hummer BUT that thing looks like it bites and would bite bad--I'm still keepin my distance! Thanks Jo |

I have seen those on my butterfly bush too. Never knew what they were until now- Thanks for taking a pic and asking :) Very happy to know it's just a moth They are pretty impressive and very weird-didn't know quite how to describe to my hubby! |

I have them too, they like the million bells and I tried to get a pic the other day but the little booger wouldn't stay still long enough....LOL |
