This morning on the way to the Memorial Day parade two large blossoming trees stood out in front of me. Stopped to stare. Glad I did. There is front of a quaint steel gray cedar shake bungalow were two mammoth horse chestnut trees.

If you are as old as I am, you might remember collecting the chestnuts in the fall and using them as slingshot ammo. Or perhaps recall the girls using them to fashion necklaces.

bsmitch	May 26, 2008 \| 4:20 PM PST My grandpa and many other older men used to carry a buckeye (horse chestnut) in their pocket for good luck. My oldest son bought a lake lot near us on Lake Cumberland and it has a very, very large horse chestnut tree in the middle of it. I didn't notice because it is in the middle of so many other trees, until I picked up twenty or so buckeyes off the ground this past fall. It made me feel like I was in my youth again.
