Plant a seed of hope and prayer

Times have certainly changed since I grew up and I have to say I sure thought I had it bad. We all had to deal with growing up and becoming our own person and the lessons we learned on how to be an adult and cope with the way life is. I most definitely would not want to be a teenager today, but I have both a son and daughter who are teens, so I guess I can't just wish that one away. Today was a sad day for all teenagers and all people around the world who just stood in shock at the news on the tv once again of a college shooting. The shooting at Northern University actually is not very far from me at all and the shooter was enrolled at U of I where my son goes. Why? is the biggest question and that will never be answered. We all just have to hope and pray that the next generations have the strength and belief that the world is a good place to grow up....just like we did. We all need to plant seeds of trust, encouragement, security and hope.

You are so right Deb. Somehow our world bought into the me first and get it right now propaganda. (this sounds like such a stong harsh word) So now we have kids that don't understand that you have to work, keep at it and know that in the end life is worth it. The word Compromise is also something that we have lost sight of. Everything is not black and white all the time. There are many grey areas in life that need compromise. Jumping off my soap box now. God bless you for the concern for your children in this day of tragedy . It does seem like things are getting worse then when we were young. I think we are products of the media age, where everything is put into our faces. Things we never saw before. It definitely is a double sided sword. I don't think we need to see all the evil in the world, too many copy cats. Let's all say a prayer for the true victims, and that's all of us, who are left here on earth, who have to deal with these horrific times. God save us. Bill Mitchell |

Thank you friends for your comments and concern. I never realized how hard it really would be to send your child off to college - this type of event that occurred was never factored into the equation. I did receive word today my son made the Dean's list for Fall 2007 - his first semester. Proud Mama here :-) |
