I am a 40 year old Full time stay-at-home Mom who is a true gardening beginner. I live in the city of Philadelphia and I used to think it was virtually impossible for me to grow anything except colius plants (which I just love). My mother had a green thumb with anything GREEN, but give her a flower and she was a mass murderer!! I never inherrited her green thumb and always thought I could never do it. Then one day, about 5 years ago, I was in the dollar store and found the gardening supplies were very cheap and I decided to give it a try. I have tried to grow anything for over 5 years with NO results. After repeated yearly failed attempts to grow a small garden, I finally had a some success in 2006 and managed to grow 5 cherry tomatoes. I know that is nothing to some of you veteran gardeners but to me, it was a "WOW" moment in my life. I think I can do it this year. Looking back, I think my biggest mistake was overwatering. I used to think the seeds needed lots and lots and lots of water to grow and it took a long time for me to understand that that is not always the case. Last year I was very successful with my tomatoes. Got bunches of Cherry, Roma and Grape tomatoes. Can't wait to see what this year yealds me!! I have my tomato plants going and boy are they going. One plant is over 2 1/2 feet tall already. Hope it is an early fruiter! I already have strawberries on my plant. Everything is in my back yard this year because of the sun!! Gonna take a few pics soon and post them! Wish me luck!
