On our last visit to Hawaii we stopped by a wholesale Nepenthes nursery located on the volcano. The owner was very nice to us and gave us a tour of his wonderful collection. As shown here he has found a use for those old giant satellite dishes -
He also sold us a couple plants and shipped them to us - pictures below. You meet the nicest people at nurseries.

Very Cool! I love pitcher plants! Every time I try to grow one, it dies...I think its not tropical here enough for them. Keep us posted on how yours do :) |

People do buy various kinds of insects to stick in the pitchers, but it's not necessary. A little seaweed fertilizer keeps them happy. I can't grow the Nepenthes pitcher plants outside but Sarracenia pitcher plants can be grown outside in most of the US. They're very easy to grow and just as cool as Nepenthes. |
